Why is Morgana support not popular right now?

I feel like she should be in the meta since a lot of hard engage supports are popular. Why isn't she played more?

Janna baby sits/disengages, morgana catches people with her smoke break snares and initiates. Janna doesn't really have smoke breaks.

Ive tried her but she feels very lack luster against the current bot meta where kalista and vayne can easily dodge her Q while tanks soak her damage like it was minion pokes.

Maybe it is just me but I still see her almost as often as Janna or Leona. Maybe not on the levels of Thresh, but still very relevant. Once she gets a RoA which is usually her first item, she is more or less near as tanky as the tanky supports due to built in spell vamp.

I think Morgana is a great champion, with a long stun, and powerful ultimate for engaging. But, I think the reason she is so underplayed is because her kit as a support is not fun. She has one move that shields herself or an ally that, although useful, is not exciting. Also, her tormented soil feels incredibly lackluster as a support. It's not doing much damage in that role, and after the enemy gets a few levels, it's not even a priority to move out of it. This is just my opinion, she's decently strong as a support, but doesn't have the same energy to her as someone like Leona, Thresh, Janna, Sona, Nautilus, Zyra, Braum, etc.

The oil slick can do some decent damage of placed right after rooting. Other than that it's best use is collecting spellthief gold.

Tanks. People still want tanks, but everyone else wants to do everything but tanks, so if the team wants tanks, the support gets stuck with tanking, or gets stuck being raged at for "gg no tanks. noob support going Morg" or some such.

The meta favors tanks. Morgana was a thing when poke supports were a thing (karma and morg were heavily favored for this and both became popular around the same time and died around the same time) I've mained morgana since season 2 and she is pretty strong but she just doesn't do what a thresh or leona would do late game. As for annie well, if you want damage you go annie since morg doesn't have the instant burst annie provides. She is still a solid pick against the popular picks like thresh and leona and even janna.

tldr: people got smart and realized all you had to do is move the side.

But she is still strong, just requires patience with those snares :) not stuns like some people say lol

She can do very well late game. When someone initiates, she can go in with an ult/Zhonyas combo and completely tear/root them up. Her maxed shield is off CD enough to save someone in need and she can stop a runaway with her Q. I've mained her and done well against every support and took her mid, and won against heavily bursty assasins.

Just people want tanks. That is all.

She is bad. It is easy to dodge her Q because it travels too slow and obviously where it goes so you can evade it. Once it misses, you just engage or poke them out. Morgana was never broken, only when people didn't have enough experience playing agaist her. After some games you get how it works, you just bait out her shield, evade a Q and their ADC is alone.

HA. She is not bad. A good Morgana, just like a good Blitz, can work around the enemy dodging her to hit a Q. She is a good champion. I've taken her mid against Ekko, Kat, Yasuo, Zed. I tore them to shreds.

Morgana support is my most played champion/role.

I'm more successful with Soraka, though. Morgana definitely has tools, especially the black shield, but Soraka can do a lot more to help a team that seriously doesn't even. Morgana is also far more likely to inadvertently pick up kills when the ADC can't execute.
