Status of Mundo

So the tank update is getting closer little by little and after looking at the items changes I can't help but wonder why our favorite big purple lug has been left in the dirt once again. Presently, Mundo has the same below par laning phase he's always had with good lategame presence. If they forget to buy Executioner's Calling that is. As of now this item shuts him out pretty hard, it's more readily viable than ever with Mortal Reminder being a solid lategame choice for adcs and even some assassins. This is a real problem for Mundo as a champion who's suppose to get a payoff for his weak early game with strong mid to lategame as his greatest strength is easily bypassed in the stage of the game where he's suppose to be very useful. Morello's feels a lot more fair for Mundo because he actually needs to be low on health for it to work. If Mundo is scratched by even the edge of a Talon ultimate carrying Mortal Reminder his healing gets hit pretty badly no matter what his health presently looks like.

The most significant changes affecting Mundo in this update are the Warmog's changes, which may allow him to get it as a second item, the buff to the boost in healing given to him by Spirit Visage, and the minor increase in price of Executioner's Calling. These are nice for him, but ultimately they don't get him out of the spot he's in. He's a tank without hard CC and hasn't seen viability for quite a long time now. I'm guessing Riot wants to give him a VGU at some point which is why he wasn't picked for the tank update. Are there plans for a possible rework down the road for him? Or is there a shorter term plan for him? Or perhaps even no plans for him at all presently? Some clarity on how Riot currently feels about the state of the good old doctor right now would be nice, as he doesn't get talked about much at all.
