Varus feels underwhelming compared to the rest of the ADC's so far, and making his W his passive would be great since his passive is a bit lackluster, plus a steroid or mobility on him would be really good.

Stop playing him like an ADC, then? AD caster varus is MUCH more fun. and with essence reaver being reworked into a crit item... well, theres 0 reason not to build the standard on him anymore. You just go mid lane or hunting in the jungle post 6 and youre pretty much golden.

"Fun" does not make it good. Build him as a normal ADC and he is outperformed by champions whose kits synergize better with the new items. He isn't good atm because he doesn't get enough out of new Essence reaver, why? because you still can't spam Q without going OOM, Essence Reaver doesn't make his mana shortage any better because you need to crit (And many times) for the mana sustain to work, which is why old essence reaver was better on Varus, Essence Reaver is good on everyone who doesn't burn 90 mana everytime he wants to use his bread and butter ability.
You could build him with tear and go mid, but Varus mid was dependent on LW, and LW sucks major cock at the moment. Varus in mid is even weaker than bot lane Varus.
Also half of his kit is trash.

Varus is also one of the LAST champions from when riots design philosphy was "Champions should have the ability to go AD or AP". If varus were made now, he would be entirely AD with entirely physical damage and blight would have flat A-pen and bonus physical damage based on your AD.

with the change of crit builds giving 40% CDR, varus's "off build" is now the standard ADC build. you litterally just focus on landing your fully charged Qs.

The playstyle isn't effective anymore because LW sucks and ADcs lost around 60 AD late game. That is why even with the new items he isn't good.
By level 13 your arrows do around 250 damage.

It... its a snowball build dude. You max Q first, get ER, then proceed to poke your enemy out of lane. Your Q is a 1.2 total AD iirc.
As the midlaner, youre more an auxiliary damage than a carry anyway. And you MASSIVELY underestimate the damage you can do with crit and 300AD.

PentaDenier1 votesTry playing him in Snowdown or get lucky and get him in ARAM, he is literally god mode in those games, hands down number 1 champ there as long as you build him as AD caster ( armor pen, AD, CDR) and can hit your Q.
