Any way to avoid playing with smurfs? Getting sick of it.

That and the terrible matchmaking. Getting old. Three month player and getting thrown in constantly with smurfs, and facing silver/golds on the other team.

Every game I have someone who is obviously a smurf or several much higher ranked.

Here's a little secret for ya: 99% of people who are "smurfs" aren't smurfing. If somebody says they're smurfing, they're not smurfing. If somebody is fed, it doesn't mean they're smurfing. Most people just suck and want people to think high of them. If they have a 70%+ winrate they're smurfing. If not, well they're not. It's very simple.

No.

Win rate has little to do with it.

First off, all of your games are normals. I'm unsure if you actually understand what a smurf is. Chances are nobody is going to go through the trouble to tank their NORMALS mmr to play with lower skilled players. This happens in ranked with new accounts, bronze-challenger runs, people trolling in low elo, and people tanking their mmr. In normals however this doesn't happen. Ranked and normals have a different mmr associated with them. For example, this is my 12th account cuz I'm a toxic piece of shit and plan on keeping it that way, but the second I hit lvl 30 on all of my other accounts I went right into ranked without playing another normal game for however long the account lasted. In ranked, I would have an 80% winrate to about diamond, and then would hit master with about a 70-75% winrate. I am a master player. When I was playing in lower elo, I'd keep around an 80% winrate. This goes for all my friends on new accounts as well. Once you start to hit 1 tier below your winrate usually drops around 5%, and once you're at your mmr your winrate will drop again by 5-10% until you play a ton of games and it slowly drifts down to around 55-60% where you should sit if you're climbing at your own elo.

Most people who say they're smurfing, aren't smurfing, and usually have a very low winrate to go along with that. People in normals, because nobody cares about normal mmr since it doesn't show up, probably aren't smurfing. If you run into a master player in a normal game its not because they're smurfing, it is because normals and ranked have seperate mmr's and the guy probably just doesn't ever play normals.

I wonder if the person who's been playing this game since season 2, who peaked at ladder rank 431 has a better idea what constitutes/indicates smurfing better than somebody who hasn't touched ranked and has been playing the game for 3 months.

So am I a smurf? You really cant tell just by winrate or if someone gets fed and smashes you when you have no idea whats going on being 3 months new

I didn't say you could tell by win rate.

And sure you can.

When you look at someone's summoner record and they average a ton of kills with a lot of cs, they are smurfing.

No you just have 30 games played lol.

Anyone whose crying smurf knows how to rate subtle gameplay differences which shouldn't exist within a specific Elo.

If a Silver Yasuo has you Airborne the 1/10th second his Q Tornado hits, not once, but every time, you generally know he's a smurf. Yasuos in Silver generally Ult about 6/10th of a second after an Airborne. They don't Ult at the exact same time it hits.

If a Zed Triple Shadows you in a clipped combo, he's not silver.

If a day 2 Akali goes 32/2/8 with the new champ in silver, she's NOT silver.

You're oblivious if you think smurfs maintain 70% win rates. They don't. The invest if keeping their accounts down. Although some smurfs maintain carry scores on some champs and intentionally feed on other champs, most generally just choose games to win and games to lose. Often, your 3/19/3 champs are actually smurfs de-ranking their accounts.

I actually am friends with several, and one myself, and they all do this.

If you see a Graves 0/6 early game in what seems to be "stupid" play, and then recovers to 18/8, It's VERY likely that's a smurf, because he sabotaged his early game snowball yet still carried the game..

I think you need to watch this video of Glacierr.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3np5Xl2JKU

He has a WHOLE SERIES of pretending to be low elo to "coaches" and some of them are actually convincing. (He has a Zed one where game 1 he literally behaved exactly like a low elo Zed, and then let loose in game 2; He's obviously an awesome liar).

This is what real smurfs do.

I completely agree with you on that. People try and keep their winrates down so they throw games to make sure they can keep just absolutely smashing people. This guy is in normals though, and I'm fairly sure nobody is doing that to keep their normals mmr low. My post is more about the people who get fed and say "yeah im smurfing" halfway through the game. Chances are they're not. Most people that complain about smurfs post because somebody said they were smurfing. Chances are they aren't. The winrate portion is in regards to new accounts. For example whenever I do an unranked to master run, I normally hit it with 70% winrate before it then falls to around 55-60, and around 75-80% to diamond. If they are trying to win, they should have around those winrates or chances are they aren't actually smurfing.

If however they are intentionally tanking their elo, yes I agree with you winrate can't tell you shit. But I highly doubt people are running around in this guy's normal games tanking their mmr so they can play with bad normal players post level 30.

Heh. The truth of Normals is so much simpler:

Ranks in Norms are more or less randomized. Normals often pair Silvers with Plat/Diamond players. It's a rough queue, and sometimes creates really brutal asymmetry.

HolyJellyMate1 votes

High winrate does not imply smurfing, a legit silver 3 player can win 10 games in a row and still not be a smurf.

im still toxic1 votes

Please go take any stat class. If you're making an inference off of 10 games you're a complete idiot, and if you think I am doing that you must think I'm an idiot as well. You need a decent sample size (much higher than 10).

HolyJellyMate1 votes

But my point still stands, a high winrate does NOT imply smurfing. They are probably in a gigantic win streak, either by being carried or knowing how to win the game.

im still toxic1 votes

Once you hit a certain sample size, it is safe to say that it does imply smurfing. You could calculate with stats at what number this is if you wanted to. Saying "oh it could just be luck" is stupid

It does. It also depends on when you're looking at the winrate, such as 20 games or all games.

If an account has 30 games and a 70% winrate. They are smurfing. Even if they haven't played the game before, they are smurfing. They are clearly not at their elo.

Don't worry though, just let the matching system take care of it. It'll get em to a 50% winrate. Even if it has to pull plat players into silver to do it.

This is untrue. If anything that number would be more like 50%. Plus, there is no way you know this. It matters to what extent they are smurfing. Sure perhaps a challenger would be a 70%, but not a gold in silver. Not even a plat in silver.

If they were, I would offer they were better than plat.

Matching is fucked, and its more than just smurfs doing it. If you don't see it, you will, just keep playing.

I don't really consider a gold player playing in silver smurfing lol. Gold players are trash, silver players are trash, there's very little difference between the two other than playtime. Know this is an unpopular opinion but I've played in every single elo in the game excluding challenger (peaked at like 250 lp master) and bronze-silver 3 are the same, s3-g2 are the same, g2-p3 are the same, p3-d4 are the same, d4-d3, d2-d1, master, challenger. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and you might not agree with me, but I've played hundreds of games in every single mmr both nowadays when I'm smurfing, and before when I was climbing, and this is what I personally have noticed.

I agree with you, there really isn't a difference. There should be a difference, but there isn't. I also don't think mmr is actually accurate, so its probly even more inaccurate than we think anyways.

I don't think the ranked ladder is actually accurate.

completely false. for example most streamers ive watched both admit to smurfing in channel and film themselves playing those smurf accounts. banning those streamers would be the best start, get the message out ut wont be tolerated

A good trick I've found is that if a person stops assuming everyone on a kill streak is a smurf, the amount of smurfing in their games drops greatly.

It's good but I believe it's not a widely usable tip, because I doubt many people are constantly running into smurfs in their normal games.

Clutch Thompson1 votes

In this game you either quit a good guy

Or you suffer longer enough to become the smurf (villain)

GrenadesAndHamm1 votes

Ahh, almost as terrible as people I play with.

When people are averaging 20 kills with 250 cs, they're smurfs. Easy to look up.

Of course, for smart folk like you two, that might not make sense.

No effort even to answer the second part of my question.

Thanks for trying so hard.
