I'm afraid to play ranked because I dont wan't harder competition

GrenadesAndHamm·1/1/2020, 9:00:48 PM·6 votes·7,347 views

I wouldn't mind ranking up, but I think it's going to put me against people that are much better.

Right now, I'm unranked but level 130. My mechanics are so-so, but 9/10 games, no matter the role, I have the most objective damage, turrets, inhibs, etc.

If I rank up to, let's say, silver, is it going to start putting me against harder opponents or does it already assign me an elo despite not being ranked?

Thanks.

Bro, I felt the same when I started playing, but realise this is a GAME. There's no room for being afraid in a game.

Just calm down and realise your goal is to have fun and only focus on yourself, otherwise what's the meaning of playing a game that makes you anxious ?

Furthermore, when you realise you only need to improve on yourself and have fun without worrying about win/loss, you're gonna play better.

if ya not going pro or making money from league don't bother

Wouldnt be much of a ranked mode if you only played against bad people...

it'll start you at low gold. and don't worry about losing, to lose is to improve.

I know exactly how you feel OP. Don’t play if you feel stressed because it’s definitely not worth it.

This game doesn’t make sense right now and isn’t fun to play regardless of whether you win in the majority of games. I recommend not playing ranked until Riot actually addresses the myriad of issues plaguing this game.

Answer: Ranked is definitely more stressful if you care at all about winning and not letting your team down. You will most certainly face stronger opponents up until the point you are the best player in the game because Riot ACTUALLY forces 50% win rates. Aka you WILL lose 50% of your games over the long haul regardless of your skill.

Source: I could be wrong but I’ve played too many games to think otherwise

It seems you just want to have fun without all the drama/toxicity/meta changes by bad developers so my advice is stay away from SR and play Aram (and any non TFT gamemode they add if they decide to actually add something fun).

i'd recommend giving it a shot, do a placement game to get the feel of it. The first couple will be a little wonky because you're new

if you win a few, expect harder people. your MMR will be inflated, and itll think you're much better than you actually might be. Then the game will pair you with some insanely good mechanical players - then your MMR will even out and youll get a baseline of where you stand.

However, be prepared for boosted animals and smurfs.

Go for it, its always good to play against better people in my honest opinion, then it shows where you lack, and it might help you improve

Match quality will go up if you go ranked, but will have it's own set of problems, mostly one sided stomps and the 2 carries/8 noobs phenomenon. At some point you'll likely get stuck, and due to the current style of matchmaking won't get better games than that so that you can improve.

HerbertyXsSn1/2/2020, 6:50:45 PM1 votes

Your teammates are always going to be the main reason you lose games. The skill level doesn't increase as drastically between divisions in this game as it does elsewhere.

Learn the basics and until your luck runs out and matchmaking starts kicking your ass it won't matter. You'll do fine all the way till masters and not face any real difference in competition. Pray to RNGesus that you don't get a bot lane which goes 0/16 combined my 14 mins or a jungler who ganks your lane at 1/3rd HP to feed away and you should be winning most matches with the bare minimum of skill.

I've found ranked to be a much more even playing field than normals..

Wen2941/2/2020, 9:25:03 PM1 votes

Normals have MMR as well, same as ranked. They're not the same values, but they are the same system. The biggest differences are that it's clearer to see in ranked, because the ranks and divisions make it way easier to compare and visualize things, and that the matchmaking is a lot stricter in ranked. (so there won't be as big a difference in MMR between players, whereas in normals the difference can be bigger)

I don't think you'll get harder competition by playing ranked, unless you win enough to increase your MMR, but that is something that can happen in normals too.

The point of ranked is to match you against people around your skill level; so no you'd never be matched with players better than you are and you only rank up if the players are clearly below your skill.

In ranked you can only be matched against people at most 2 elo above you but in norms you can have bronze fighting plats and diamonds.

Zerdun1/1/2020, 10:52:32 PM1 votes

you already are loosely ranked in non ranked games. Expect the feeling of play from your teammates outside of whenever you need to rank when your attempting to climb.

Warmas1/1/2020, 11:37:21 PM1 votes

Normal games as I imagine pair you up with similar level of opponents but definetéy no elo whatsoever. Most of those players range mostly from bronze to gold as I witness from my normals so I wouldn't worry. You can also stop playing ranked any time also you will improve playing ranked. You won't be matched against higher skill opponents that's the whole point of the ranked system. It supposed to find you the rank where players are as good as you are, as now you start from the bottom. But it will generally be harder as in normals people don't focus that much.

Metal Janna1/1/2020, 11:57:59 PM1 votes

I was that guy for a long time. Didn't do Ranked because I figured it'd be harder. It isn't, really. People take it a little more seriously but your skill level is the same and matchmaking's been doing it's best to assign you teammates and enemies that match you all along. If you play offmeta i'd definitely recommend it as you get fewer troll-because-I-don't-like-your-pick players in Ranked. It takes a while for your rank to reach your actual skill level and stop increasing, so don't be discouraged when you place in Bronze.

me in normals: diamond enemys, silver teammates me in ranked: plat vs plat.

just go into ranked its more fun and more stress free than normals (if you mute everyone right away)

MrFawknSunshine1/2/2020, 3:57:40 AM1 votes

in my normal games im placed with and against gold, plats and diamonds all the time , and sometimes i have even played with and vs master + in normals.

last game i played in normals my team silver 1 gold 2 plat 4 gold 1 lvl 162 enemy team diamond 4 gold 4 gold 2 plat 4 gold 4

game prior my team lvl 162 gold 1 gold 1 lvl 79 gold 3 vs plat 4 plat 4 gold 2 sil 1 lvl 48

game prior my team lvl 162 lvl 133 gold 3 gold 3 plat 4 vs lvl 45 sil 3 diamond 1 bronze 1 silver 4

in rank games the match making would be more normalized.

issue with non rank/normals is it has a separate MMR then rank so someone who is DIAMOND in rank who dont play normals goes into normals they are playing at lower MMRs vs players like you. way worst match making.
