Why is that 's damage goes to practically nothing when a champion when he ults them? Is this actually a bug that they have yet to fix or what?

Zed's ult relies on Zed laying down damage after dropping the Death Mark. Flashing away from Zed would make it more difficult for Zed to drop more damage as is a melee auto attacker and would then depend on his Shadow for damage, which he likely already dropped in preparation for putting on damage after Death Mark is dropped.
