Still not sure why we can randomly roll skin perms for champions we don't own tbh.

Currently on a 3 streak of rerolling into skin perms for champs I don't own. First Headhunter Cait, then SKT Lee, now Aristocrat Vayne. Gonna place my bets on some Janna skin or smthn next.

Remind me why this is a feature? You can't get skins for champions you don't own through Mystery Gifts, why the disconnect...?

They do it that way because Riot doesn't want you substituting the crafting system for actually spending money. If they made it so that you only got stuff for champs you owned, you would be less incentive to buy skins for champs- especially true if you had a very small champion pool. Someone with say, 12 champs owned could get basically every skin available for them fairly easily.

tldr: greed

free skins and youre complaining :s

At least your boxes are giving you skin shards. The last 5 boxes I got were 4 champion shards and a summoner icon. Oh, I'd also like to point out that I've earned 28 crates this season and opened 24, not one of them was a rare gemstone. Although at this point I would just dust it for orange essence if I got one

Because otherwise...

HOW TO GET HEXTECH ANNIE:

  1. Create New Account, only buy Annie.
  2. Purchase Chests and keys
  3. Unlock chests
  4. Turn any gems into more chests and keys
  5. Continue until you get 3 skin shards
  6. Reroll skin shards into Annie skin
  7. Rinse and repeat until hextech Annie
  8. Sell Account for more $$$ than the chests cost

This method would also work with Soulstealer Vayne if you could only get skins for champs that you own.

Because that's about the buisness model behind hextech stuff? You get **free **stuff, and some of it might compell you to buy stuff. Thats how the hextech crafting actually is profitable for them. Also, skinshards for champs you don't have can be disenchanted to get the essence for skins of your champs. What really sucks is getting champ shards if you already own all champs and have over 100000IP.

And for mysterie skins: you actually pay for them, so it makes sure you get something from them.

LadyRenly9/25/2016, 6:10:58 PM2 votes

it's an incentive to make you go "oh wow this skins pretty cool, maybe ill get this champ"

ModAcademy Kayn9/26/2016, 2:50:14 AM2 votes

Imagine going to CostCo.

You're walking down the aisles and you see people giving out free samples of food. Sometimes the free food samples are something you like, sometimes it's something you do like, but in the end, you are not being hindered by these free samples. In no way, are you the loser in this situation.

Niyumi9/25/2016, 8:05:28 PM1 votes

Okay, I'll tell you why. You with me?

Riot gives no fuck about anything but your money. If they can potentially get you to buy RP to get a champion because you got a fancy skin for them, then they sure as hell will try.

Welcome to the wonderful, greedy world of F2P.

Still don't know why we get champion shards that we own tbh.

Oh wait, cause grind to get tired and give rito money.

YambrinZ9/26/2016, 3:29:15 AM1 votes

Its a business people. It may entice you to idk, BUY THAT CHAMPION? Riot gives people free shit and they cry lolz.

LatetotheRace9/26/2016, 3:51:48 AM1 votes

Just an incentive to get that champion.

ForeverLaxx9/26/2016, 12:58:46 PM1 votes

tbh idk y tho fam cough

Sorry, sorry. Caught some of the cancer there. Sorry. Won't happen again.

Wolfess9/26/2016, 1:14:45 PM1 votes

It's because it's a lottery, you get what you get because hextech isn't there to give you what YOU want, it's there to make riot money just like any other game's lottery prize where it's usually cheaper to buy than what you're getting or CAN get, but it's randomized.

If people only got skins for champions they owned, it would be WAY too easy to get skins for certain champs that have expensive skins or potentially just get one champ on a new account, get all skins possible on it through hextech, then buy the next champ, get all skins on that one that are possible, then repeat continuously with all champs that you give two craps about and BAM, you now have an account where you can play specific champs with all of their skins when you want.

"Riot you should only give me what I want"

then go buy the skins at the store. It will give you EXACTLY the skin you want, when you want it. learn2business

i remember when the only time you could get skin was to buy them. Now you can get some random one for free. Don't complain about something thats free.

yoshi27909/25/2016, 1:11:26 PM1 votes

Yeah, it sucks when that happens :/

PhDs Nuts5/29/2018, 5:58:16 AM1 votes
  • Start account with only buying some combo of Ezreal, Udyr, Lux, Darius, Vayne, Annie
  • Roll legendary skins
  • Continue as normal
escape9/25/2016, 5:22:02 PM1 votes

Because the crafting system gives you some skins that Mystery Gifts can't give, like Hextech skins. If you only get skins for champions you own, it would be too easy to get a rare skin like that.

JackMcSnipeyz9/25/2016, 6:31:51 PM1 votes

Just like how you can create ARAM accounts and skewer the pick rates, people with low champ pool can pretty much own all skins for their champions easily (buy ez, reroll 5 times, guranteed ultimate skin).

Simple business model, you get skins for champions you dont own , now you havd initiative to get them, it's not really greed either.

Sailor Galaxia9/25/2016, 6:42:13 PM1 votes

I mean I guess it can become orange essence which you will need for future skins you get that you can use and/or want.

What I wanna know is why someone that has all champs like me keeps getting champion shards? I have 2k+ blue essence and can't rly do much with it

notice me Sin pi9/25/2016, 7:01:00 PM1 votes

if it only gives skins for what i own only, I'd never buy champs aside from the 16 that are required for ranked

On top of this we cant play champs we dont own in aram and ar urf

Drugoth9/25/2016, 7:30:10 PM1 votes

It's called a business model. Let's say you don't own Veigar but you think he's a cool champion. All the sudden you get a final boss Veigar skin from a box. You might end up buying that champion just so you can use the skin because it's such a cool skin! Can't really blame Rito for being sly in business now can we?
