Ekko not living up to expectations

"We’re about to send League’s next champion out to PBE! Ekko’s Ekko a powerful skirmishing assassin who thrives in extended fights, using his mobility and crowd control to slow and stun enemies as he whittles down his targets. And if he starts to lose a fight, the brilliant boy from Zaun can rewind time a little and try again."

That's the description of Ekko we were given before release, but I want to focus on one main point "Ekko’s a powerful skirmishing assassin who thrives in** extended** fights, using his mobility and crowd control to slow and stun enemies as he whittles down his targets" Extended fights, whittles down targets, but then he's released with an ap scaling on his abilities that gives him Leblanc Leblanc level burst, I may be wrong but for a mage who's supposed to mainly focus and rely on utility doesn't his damage output seem a bit high?

i was hoping he'd be a real skirmisher so that i could maybe replace garen as my main with him in toplane, but he turned into a midlaner who bursts down champions and is basically a run of the mill assassin who i silence and delete

If he was a utility based mage, it'd definitely be too much damage. He's not a utility based mage, though. He's an assassin that has utility for teamfights.

No, Ekko dies from 1 hit combo mid game from enemy mid laner, or like 5 aa from adc. If he doesn't play sensible then he cant actually use his r to kill anybody and will be using it more defensively. If you want to make him totally useless, play lb, she kills him in less than 3 secs at lvl 3
