I actually build my Riven a little tanky. After I finished Hydra and got my sunfire, Lee Sin was a corpse every time I came across him. But it was too late at that point.

Never really saw the point of going tank Riven unless you were behind, seems like you would want grasp of the undying in that case though, unless you're running 18/12/0, which would be strange.

I was running 18/0/12 with fervor of battle. Again, 1st time I ever lost to Lee Sin. I did everything the exact same way I always did. Stun when he gets close to minion wave. Dash to absorb his tempest damage, Q him down. Except after he activated cripple and AA me once, I would lose a large chunk of health and have to retreat, only to of course be hit by sonic wave.

Yeah I saw the part about it being the first loss vs him, I just don't rate tank Riven as a first choice when you could play her damage, her kit doesn't really lend itself to a tank kit as much as a melee ADC, same thing with Tryndamere and Rengar, they just seem so much more effective than the tank versions when you build them damage. Riven doesn't really have the sustain that some other top laners have so against a high damage early lane like Lee Sin or Fiora who have sustain you can't really just tank the damage out because their sustain means they will win the trades over time due to being able to regain health over time, and it's not practical to get the tank stats early to reduce the damage of these two by a noticeable amount. Unless you scale with defensive stats like Shen or Galio then generally building early resistances is going to set you behind by a bit.

Do you max Q or E first when you play this match up?

I prefer to max E in most match ups for the lower cool down, Q is only really if I need to burst a target down quickly, with a tank build you can't really do that either way.
