A Discussion About True Damage
I think we all have to agree that it seems like a recent trend for Riot to be adding true damage to champion kits for whatever reason and I'm not entirely happy about that. I've always thought that true damage was a mechanic that, due to it's nature of being unable to be directly itemized against, is rare and only appeared on champions who's kit was centered around this true damage. (ie.
)
Vayne's kit works around her silver bolts. If you remove the true damage on her bolts, it will hurt her a lot regardless of how much you hate her currently and how OP you might think she currently is. Even if it continues to be %health damage, by making it normal damage, you've just made her a lot weaker so the point where she would need a lot of buffs to bring her back up to what she currently is. This is an example of a kit that needs true damage. (Whether this kit is healthy or not is another story that I will refrain discussing here.)
However I don't think a lot of the recent reworked champs like Garen need true damage. Garen is a tank who's identity is bush killing an enemy squishy. He already becomes unkillable when ahead pre-rework. Garen's problem was that his game play was 1. considered simple and thus boring by some and 2. mildly binary. (I'm no Garen main though, so please correct me if I'm wrong.) Nothing in his kit makes him someone who you'd think would need %health true damage.
I'd like this to be a discussion thread about the applications of true damage and why certain champs should and shouldn't have it. This is NOT your Fiora and Garen QQ thread, ty. This is also not a "true damage so OP" QQ thread.
And if a Rioter see this, I'd just like an answer, what is the motive behind the sudden surge of true damage in champion kits?
