Why can "grounded" effect disable abilities...?

Why can Singed's (and probably Cassiopeia's) "grounded" effect disable Lee Sin's W? WHY is such a thing even possible? Lee Sin is NOT allowed to shield himself inside the poison field? Heck, why does this grounded effect even exist? Aren't 40-60% slows enough on poison fields?

Because Grounded stops you from using any mobility. That's it. That's all it does. If you don't like it, don't stand in it.

Anyone else find it funny that a Lee sin main can't see the obvious counterplay added to the game

Because it stops dashes. And his W is a dash.

someone has no idea what the "grounded" debuff does... complains about said debuff [zombie-brand-facepalm]

Your point could be presented better, but I agree with you.

To answer to you question: because of technical reasons. You can use your W to dash on a target, so it's tagged as a mobility spell, and Grounded disables all mobility spells. The system doesn't make a difference between self-cast or target-cast if a spell has different effects, it just disables a spell as a whole.

For the records, it's the same for Braum, you can't use his W to buff your own Armor. And it's the same thing with Roots. I hate playing as Braum versus Morgana or Lux support because of that.

I think we could convince Riot to make the distinction between self- and target- cast if there was more than 2 cases, but as it stands, I think they don't care, it's not big enough of a problem.

It is a spell with mobility tied onto the effect.

There's a lot of abilities that make no sense for them to be affected by "grounded" the way they are, but riot doesnt care.

I mean if anything more spells should have grounding attached. Smacking the opponent into the ground aught to keep them there a bit.
