A Deep Thought About Support Brand...
If you aren't plat+ and main brand, don't play him support. I can't tell you how many games I lose because people who main mid, or top, or any other role are like wow, I just queued up for ranked. Oh look, I'm also last pick, support brand time!
This is so annoying, now I'm not the best at this game and I know where he is good, I know where he's useless, but no one seems to understand that if you don't know how to play a champion or a role, to not play that champion or role. Literally I see support brands left and right losing me games, in ranked, because they've never played him before. There's a very high risk with depending on the picks high-low rewards.
Now for an example, there was a game awhile back that was ranked, they first picked Tahm support, and Vayne ADC, blind. So, this guy said "_Hi all, I main mid, but I can play support!_" seeing this I was like oh great a guy who actually plays support. Here's the twist, he picked brand support and I picked Caitlyn knowing they have no sustain and I outrange their ADC, coming into this with the intent to freeze lane, and poke them if they tried to farm. Support brand had other ways of thinking, now he decided to constantly play behind me, apply no in-lane pressure, and have no real presence throughout the game, besides free gold for the other team. This is because, he didn't know how to support and he didn't understand how to play brand support. Now, I made some mistakes throughout the game, I wasn't perfect either throughout this game. I was able to stay on tower, just try to farm up, and poke their Vayne when she overextended, but we still ended up losing. My theory for why we lost is because, although Brand is a great way to break the meta, he isn't a viable pick to those who don't know how to play him. Just a little bit of thought for this topic is, try some games mid lane with Brand, learn how to play him, and learn the bot meta after you have earned some mechanical skill with him. Then once you understand how to play him bot lane into certain picks, then play him as you will.
The main things I want to be a goal for this little "essay" are, learn some mechanical skills with your champion of choice, (in this case Brand) learn the meta to the lane you wish to play. Then, once you have mastered those two just a little bit, then bring that person into ranked play.
This is for all you wanting to try a new role, but don't exactly know what role, or champion to play. (It's also a rant, so if you don't want to hear about it then go find a different topic to talk about)
