Why do I get placed with P5 players? Is it trying to get me demoted? I know my MMR is high but dumping me into games with people entire divisions ahead of me seems like a sure fire way to get me demoted. Granted I still can win these games but it will be from my teammates carrying me. They have to carry a less skilled teammate and it detracts from both players experiences.

I guess it just doesn't make sense to me for as a player to fight against people who are more skilled than my division. It is like the game is trying to make you lose but I guess it is a dynamic equilibrium that finds your proper place. Entire divisions just seem huge though.

their mmr is the same like yours. So you get matched with them, end of the story. if they are plat 5's their mmr is simply horrible and they are the worst plats you can find. People shouldnt compare each others division to determine skilllevel, because this whole league system has NOTHING to do with the matchmaking at all.

You get demoted based on your mmr, so if your mmr is plat, you can lose an awful lot of matches at 0LP before you'll be demoted.

Although it's not necessarily plat mmr, most likely the plats actually have gold mmr.

It would be a combination of:

Your MMR being higher than average for your rank
The Platinum 5 player's MMR being lower than the average for their rank
Premade groups within Dynamic Queue increasing the MMR ranks of players within a game
