Losing 40 LP for failing a promo?

I can't tell if this is a bug or intentional. I played two promo series today and lost both of them. I'm not salty about that, but I don't understand why I dropped 40 LP after the series ended. I get about 18 LP per win and maybe 20 per loss. So my MMR isn't great, but this seems a little too much. So it takes me what, 5 wins in a row now, to get to the next division. On top of that, it seems like you drop division instantly if you lose a game at 0 LP (I might be wrong about that, but it seems a lot less forgiving than before).

Is this intentional? Were too many people getting lucky with their promo struggles? Am I just a whiny child? Let me know.

Examples of how it works 98LP win -> 115LP overcapped to 100displayed Lose = 98LP still in promo Lose = 81LP still in promo

80LP win 101LP overcapped to 100displayed So if you start at 100, losing twice really really drops your LP.

So your LP still (gains?) and loses even though it is hidden. Some people say the matter of how you win/lose your promos is important because you can lose LP. Some people say they would say dodge so you get back to promos faster (don't know if that is good unless you already got your free promo win).

Wow, that's... an interesting system. I would have never considered dodging a promo game before now. I dunno, that still seems like it could be really punishing to me. Or maybe it's better to say it feels like a double standard. If you win your series, that LP disappears and you start at 0, but if you lose then the LP remains and it drags you back down.

Yes. I don't remember exactly what their recommendation was. But they said there was an ORDER to the best way to play promos.

I think if you lose game 1, just dodge game 2. This results in -17 (howevermuch), -3. The -3 is huge, you may be able to get back into promos in just one game in many cases. At the same time, if you Lose, Lose then you just really hurt your LP like in your case.

So they argued it isn't worth taking the 50/50 that you might win your next game. THEN have to play a third game that you might not win.

BUT, I am not sure how correct they are. I tried once. If you dodge, you do not get a free promo next time you play. If you have a free promo, it is probably better to just take the 50/50 in game 3.

I guess i just proved this example wrong? I had 98 lp won a game and was put into promos. Lost one game and my lp stayed up 100 lp and then lost another and was put at 60 LP. This definitely sounds like a bug to me. I just lost 40 lp in one game.

You lost 40 LP in 2 games, which sounds high but about right if your MMR is bad.

98 + 15 = 100(113) 113 - 18 = 100(95) 95 - 18 = 77

The 100 will always say 100 while in promos. But I believe it still tracks changes, it just doesn't show it. 40+ LP loss is HUGE though, so I wonder what your normal +/- is.

yeah this just happened to me, had 1 free win, then lost 2 lol dumb, dropped me to 65 LP... I am only gaining 15-18 LP for a win and losing 20, it makes no sense...
