Going 0-10 in placements.

So, I'm gonna be open about this. I went 0-10 in placements. I wanted to test how Riot's division thing works. I was Silver 2 last season. Silver 2. I lost all my placements matches this season and guess where I ended up. Silver 2 again. SILVER 2. I lost all my placements matches and still got the same division that ended last year. This begs the question, how many people are actually bad at the game, go 0-10 in placements and still get placed somewhere high, assuming they should go somewhere around bronze?

Seriously, I was wondering how come in Gold 2 that players can be THAT BAD. Players having 0 knowledge of the game, not knowing what to do on the map, not knowing item builds, runes etc. In Gold 2, where you are supposed to know some things about the game and implement them. Now it hit me. The reason above is why. Bad players still get placed in high divisions. Silver 2 with 0-10 in placements and I end up Silver 2, when I should go into Bronze 3 at least. Now, let's assume that someone at Bronze 2 for example won half of their provisionals, would that rank him at mid Silver? A Bronze player going into Silver?!

Seriously I have no words. The ranking / division system is so fucked up right now and I myself just figured out why.

Does no one realize he just lost 10 games on purpose for his "test" shouldn't he be banned for trolling?

You weren't actually Silver 2 last season.

OP was Gold 3 last season. He's just lying in this post. Only thing this shows is that people are gullible lol (18 upvotes lol)

This year the reset was way softer than any other before

i went 7-3 in mine and got silver 2. feels bad..

Chromatic Eagle2/3/2018, 8:48:22 PM3 votes

Pretty sure a Bronze player who won their games would still be placed in Bronze. Lower bronze at that.

Mysticman892/3/2018, 9:14:03 PM3 votes

Keep in mind mmr is what matters rather than rank, so someone ending silver 2 with silver 5 mmr is going to have a much shittier placement than someone ending silver 2 with gold 3 mmr for example. Going 0-10 in placements and starting where you ended is pretty indicative of the latter scenario.

It is weird. I never played ranked until this season, not sure I will much longer either, the toxicity is insane (and I have less people throw/Int/afk in norms). I figured I would have to rank my way up from the bottom since I never have done ranked. I went like 2/8 with 5 of the games having someone go afk.....and I was still at B1. A friend of mine was S1 or 2 last season, went 8/10 and is in B3.....this makes no sense. The onyl thing that makes less sense is that I actually had better players on my team in B5 than I am in S4 right now. How the hell do you die 16 times in 1 game??? I don't think I have done that since a 1 hour long ARAM game lol.

PandemicPanda52/3/2018, 11:08:55 PM2 votes

Maybe those people with the weird builds are testing where they place after 10 losses as well?

Wimbledofy2/4/2018, 3:07:40 AM2 votes

You can't get placed in gold for your first season very easily though. So anyone in gold 2 climbed there or got boosted. Bad players aren't getting placed into gold, it just isn't possible. Also if you were bronze last season, even if you go 10-0 in placements, you likely won't be put into silver. So you're made up scenario of a bronze 2 player getting placed into silver just doesn't make sense. Since you were silver 2 last season and still got placed silver 2 this season with 10 losses it means your mmr was higher than silver 2. There's no reason it would drop you into bronze since 10 games isn't enough to drop 4 divisions.

It's hard to say exactly, since we don't know the technicalities of MMR, and how it changes at the start the the Season.

But it's reasonable to assume that MMR does not automatically change every new season. Rather, your placement games shift your MMR just like regular games, but to a greater extent (probably?). On top of that, players are placed into a rank that is roughly 2-3 divisions below where they belong, to give them space to climb in the new season (even if their skill level and MMR stays completely constant).

In your case, it appears that you were Gold in Season 6. And in Season 7, you probably placed in SIlver due to the rank reset that everyone gets. Then you played only 20 games that Season, which isn't enough to climb back to Gold. However, your MMR stayed the same during all that (since you weren't losing a bunch of games). This Season, again you were placed 2-3 divisions below where your MMR (still Gold-level) should put you. In short you started last Season with Gold MMR and a SIlver Rank, you didn't make enough progress to change your rank or your MMR, and therefore you have started in the same place this Season.

Ok sure but why2/4/2018, 12:28:58 AM1 votes

Yet I win 7 of mine and go from G5 to S4

smhhhhhh

SwiftKitten882/4/2018, 1:01:41 AM1 votes

i went 5/10 and went from silver 4 to silver 5... and i have already climbed back to silver 4.

MAYBE (and this is a long shot and i seriously doubt it) it's trying to put player were they belong.

for example.. they guy lost all ten game and didnt get demoted.. maybe because he has game knowledge. (idk I'm winging this right now)

so if you actaulyl deserve the elo you got last time you wont get demoted much... but if you dont deserve it.. you get demoted more.

again I'm pulling this out of my ass and i don't believe it myself.. but it's an interesting thought

No matter how much upvotes this will get they will keep ignoring and perhaps even lock this.

WardBaronFFS2/4/2018, 1:21:43 AM1 votes

Hey um I went like 8-2 placements and got placed bronze 4 from silver 5 now here I am stomping bronze, I dont think the placements are messed up tbh I did when I was placed tbh...

Karfuss2/4/2018, 2:05:54 AM1 votes

I've always believed this to be the case back when ranks were first introduced.

You'd hear about people not grasping the basics from Bronze 5 to Diamond, you'd see it in streams. The higher you're placed initially (which feels seemingly random), the higher the likelihood of you getting carried in each individual game. I maintain that this is the reason you'll see relatively awful players at high ranks.

Anecdotally I'm seeing it myself. If I'm having an average game, where I'm neither feeding nor carrying, the game nevertheless does feel easier. I'm reaching that sweet spot where I don't actually need to be the carry to win. Whereas at lower ranks it took one person to get fed and steamroll the advantage, because everyone was clueless on how to deal with it.

Went 8-2 in my placements only be dropped in Silver IV - down from Silver II in the preseason. Now I'm back at Silver II. Thanks RIOT!

SHANK LUX MAINS2/4/2018, 3:29:42 AM1 votes

Gold 2 isn't a high division, even plat 5 is still pretty trash.

Automated Riven2/4/2018, 8:18:27 AM1 votes

Placements actually dont matter at all during a reset, tbh i dont even know why they have them. What matters is your mmr and you will be dropped to the same place that everyone else with your mmr is dropped.

SEKAI2/4/2018, 4:58:47 PM1 votes

I was silver 5 last season, and got placed in bronze 1 after going something like 6-4 in placement.

Isn't it the norm to be placed lower than where you finished off last season?

PopcornBunni2/5/2018, 2:13:00 AM1 votes

I was in bronze I, lost 8/10 of my placements, and was put in bronze V, which I can only assume is five times better than bronze I

I'm a year late to the convo but I didn't find anything about this: I was in SILVER I last season and have only completed 2 out of the 10 games of which I've won one - and it has already assumed me as BRONZE IV?! Is that a temporary reflection or should I be worried?
