Bad Matchmaking Needs to Be Fixed

trunktractor·4/12/2018, 11:26:31 AM·16 votes·9,003 views

In draft 5v5, over the past two days, I have played 10 matches, and in all 10 matches, the matchmaking was horrible.

One team has all, or all but one, of the average to good players, while the other team has all, or all but one, poor to new players.

The result has been, for 10 MATCHES IN A ROW, scores such as 25 to 1, or 6 to 31, etc.

This is not fun for the players, or good for the community.

I do not enjoy beating up on helpless noobies. I do not enjoy being forced to play with helpless noobies.

I would rather wait in the queue for 20 minutes, for a somewhat even match, than be put into such boring and frustrating matches.

THE MATCHMAKING IS OBVIOUSLY BROKEN. 10 IN A ROW IS A PATTERN, NOT A RANDOM EVENT.

HELP THE COMMUNITY BY FIXING THE BROKEN MATCHMAKING.

We look forward to a prompt and effective response from our development team.

Thank you.

I agree completely. Most of my matches are the same, one side getting completely stomped with zero chance to recover. The teams are clearly stacked on one side every game. Riot seems to be completely clueless about this ongoing problem.

This game is going downhill and they waste fucking time on useless balances and reworks instead of the real problems

Matchmaking may seem like the problem but its not. It hasn't change as far as I can tell. It is a symptom of the cancer that is the snowball issue making minor differences in skill matter so much more than they did before. It was much easier to recover from 1 or 2 mistakes a season ago than it is now.

Once you make a mistake this season, its nigh impossible for the average player to recover from even one mistake, especially since the game is so unforgiving you probably won't even learn anything from said mistake, hell you probably won't even realize what EXACTLY the problem was and even if you do, its so hard to correct once you've given the enemy a lead.

Now that isn't to say matchmaking can't be made better, people complained about it before this season. Matchmaking should be much more complex and based on your level of skill with the champ you are playing, not your overall level. I'm a mid silver support player, which if I'm matched against mid silver players while playing support that's fine. But if I play ooooo say top, which I suck at, its still gonna try to match me against mid silver players, and I'm gonna get wrecked that's gonna ruin the game for 4 other people. RIot could put in the effort to fix this, but they won't, because it'd be ALOT of work.

always queue dodge when you get a veigar support / shen or singed jungle/top i always lose when i get these retarded players inting

always look at their entire match history to see whether the mid starts luden echo (if he does check his score, all my mids feed when they start ludens)

15 minutes wait can feel like a hassle but you're going to lose and ff at 15 anyway might as well have a better win rate, if i care enough i dodge and in return win more games.

there are so many horrible players that don't belong in lv.30+ so you must weed them out because riot is either blind or doesn't give a damn about the community.

from my experience many games are relatively unplayable compared to season 5 and before.

2 years ago i was caring so much about the said problem that today i don't really feel much about it... but i'm glad to see people realize it in a bit greater number now

Clueless about it? No. I've said this stuff - posted about it - for over a year. Riot doesn't seem to care. The boards... overwhelmingly reply with downvoting, toxic reply posts, and stupid comments like "git gud".

People don't give a shit about citing actual evidence to back up your claims, they just look for someone to tear apart. Like "my jhin spent half of the game running into (not being run down by) melee range of the enemy garen. He took fights when he was 1/7/0 2v2 vs the opponents he fed instead of hug tower and just farm. When I asked him to 'pls group and just stall at tower', he told me to stfu and that I would be 'reported toxic'. He also flamed me for 1/3/2 kda when enemy jg camped me for 20 min straight." Posting something like that as part of your post to support the fact that... your matchmaking was horrible and jhin was inting or boosted gets you...

boards: "You're just toxic and arrogant prick." "Git gud" "I know challenger player that would make you look like shit; quit whining beaaach cuz you're just trash" Etc.

And when that's how we allow boards members to treat their peers for making fact-filled honest posts with details that back up their claim, is it any wonder Riot doesn't give a crap about that person's claims?

UPDATE

Three weeks now, matchmaking in 5v5 draft is completely broken.

For three weeks, every game is a bad match, with all the bad players, or all but one, on the same team.

STOP matching unskilled players with skilled players in draft.

WE WILL HAPPILY WAIT LONGER IN QUEUE FOR FUN MATCHES.

We do not enjoy badly matched teams. Period.

Best solution: match players based on win loss percentage. In this way, smurfs who keep winning, play better opponents. In this way, bad players who have played many, many games, play bad opponents.

FIX THE MATCHMAKING, it's no fun playing with such horribly unbalanced teams.

Thank you.

100% agree. I will say I don't think it is AS MUCH MATCHMAKING as it is a combination of the snowballiness with the matchmaking included. I've been in Diamond 5 promos twice this season riding 10 ish game winning streaks on each one only to fall to P5-P4 multiple times with incredibly heavy teams.

Does that mean some of it is my fault? Yep, I'll take the blame for some of the bad games I've had and probably would have got demoted a division anyway. But for 20 ish games I know the tides have turned immediately just by the feel of games. Something needs to be changed.

10 in a row isn't necessarily a pattern. I just went to random.org and flipped 100 coins. One sequence out of the 100 looks like this: H H H H H H T H T H H T T H H H H H H T. So out of 20 coins only 5 were Tails and I got 6 Heads in a row twice. Now, is flipping a coin random or is it somehow rigged? It's easy to notice "patterns" if you're not looking at the entirety. Humans are programmed to notice patterns, even if there are none. Note that I'm not saying whether or not matchmaking is actually broken, just that you can't actually say if something is broken just from a single 10 game streak. I've had worse streaks in other games.

10 in a row is a random event, you have to repeat something hundreds of times consistently before you can call it a pattern, you are assuming all your games will be like this, even though only ten were and likely very few others are. Even if half your games are a stomp, this is not a pattern, it is not consistent enough to be a pattern

Supposing we represent your games as either stomp (S) or even(E), yes maybe SSSSSSSSSS Seems like a pattern but how does it look in SSSEEEESEEESSESESESEEESSSSSSSSSSEEESSSEESESESEEEEEESEEEEEESEEEESEEESSSSEEEEEEEEEEEESSESSSESSSESESEEESSSESSESEEEEESEEEEESSEEEEEESSSESESSESEEEEESESESSESSESES Still seem like a pattern?
