Lots of posts about building sightstone...

... but not a lot of people talk about trinket usage.

Granted, there's a few obvious reasons why: sightstone's existence is more visible (heh) than someone's trinket cooldown, and sometimes you can't use trinket when it's off cooldown. Sometimes you can't immediately ward with sightstone as well, but there's no cooldown limit to it either.

Although, as a support main (although I haven't played as much lately, due to midterms), it does get a little annoying when people harp about sightstone when it's not uncommon to see your midlaner use about 3-6 wards every twenty minutes. It likely gets better in higher elo competitive, but low elo and normals is downright annoying when people play blind as a bat but still harp on you about vision.

Along with the upcoming season's changes upon invisibility and such, I'd appreciate it if vision was looked upon as well. More vision options for other roles (sacrifice a wee bit of stats for utility), more interesting vision items for supports that can replace sightstone (on a per game basis, mind you!) that are comparable to Kalista's ghosts for instance. Promote different ways of playing the vision game, items that promote roaming and such.

I know it's unpopular to say this, but sightstone is boring. Everyone buys it, every variation of sightstone does the exact same thing (be a ball of stats and some wards), etc. If I were to compare it to another item set, I'd say the hextech line, but instead of bolts we get wards. Support is the role that sacrifices glory for the good of their team, but it should still be looked on to still be "fun" for the average player, instead of having mechanics that feel like a chore that nobody else wants to do.

Legit had a varus ADC refuse to even take a free trinket because wardning was the supports job.

Even then, a trinket is given to you when you leave the shop if you don't get it yourself. So he had no excuse to not use it :P

I'm though it gets given to you at 1:15, when minions spawn, but I guess I might be wrong.

Regardless of when it's given to you, it's given to you automatically.

I say it would be more fun to have sightstone wards have their enchant varient so the wards themselves can have purposes tailored for the players style of gameplay.

Which they could do by adding different varieties of wards to the current "combo support" items. The relic shield wards could have additional health, while the yellow one could give a slight speed boost to allies when approaching it and the blue one could "slap" enemies for a tiny bit of damage when they destroy it.

May sound wierd, but its really hard to believe that the sightstone itself has synergy to a support champions kit.

Heh, I instantly thought of plants for some reason. Maybe Riot is experimenting on the wrong role there? Maybe shake things up by making visible, but powerful(er) wards!

But yes, that does sound interesting. Set up traps or form a defensive post with wards...

What makes the support role uninteresting to the majority of players, I believe is the sightstone item itself. Most people just can't relate the item to combat or their playstyle. Hence the reason why trackers are not built on junglers often in solo que, but is actually a extreme offensive options in competitive.

Just my rant, but i want my wards to fortify the land I own, and aid me to track the enemy in a more interactive manner like CCTV cameras or drones rather than just sitting there stationary.

Wolves smite and Kalista ghosts are primarily what I want for support warding options.

I want scout abilities that send vision up ahead, not just in a small aoe like the pre-9 blue trinket, but actively scouts ahead briefly.

I want wards that are visible, but can be interacted with like GP barrels.

I want portable scuttlebug shrines.

I want people to build these items the same way and for the same reasons they would build item 3800 item 3060 item 3512 except when those items are semi-meta and not seen once in a blue moon (disclaimer). Strategy, dammit!

I want more options and interesting gameplay! D:

Supports get shit for not building sightstone because they're the only ones who feasibly can- thus warding is their primary job.

Your midlaner may be only warding once every ten minutes, but if he's shitting out damage then he's fulfilling his primary function.

well fucking said

But if all you do is deal damage, and you don't develop good habits, there's going to be games you're not shitting out as much damage.

By that logic, I can sit in a game and just ward as Soraka, but I'm definitely going to get shit if I never heal my allies. A good midlaner can get away with not warding if they're dealing damage, but a great midlaner wards without disrupting their gameplay whatsoever.

Besides, there's a ward cap of 3. Teammates need to ward up too, otherwise the sightstone isn't going to do enough on its own.

How about junglers? item 3711 is a thing, you know...

If all you can do is fill a primary function, you wont make it past Silver-Gold without being a god.

The carry laners should at least be doing enough warding to give themselves some gank warning during laning phase, and helping ward objectives to take later. A support only has four wards up at a time, even with sightstone, due to limits on how many can be placed. For laning phase that covers botlane just fine. Later in the game, four wards is crap.

Your first back? Get a pink. Hell, get two and save one for when your first one gets taken out. I don't care what role you are. If the midlaner is warding once every 5-10 minutes, that's like porn for junglers looking to buttsecksgank unwary midlaners.

Also, warding is not the support's primary job. Supporting their ADC is. It involves so much more than warding. Shielding, healing, soaking damage, lane harass (all champion dependent), covering objectives and/or setting up engages are all in there.

3-6? thats a lot. Whenever I play support I have to have sightstone and yellow trinket and possibly buy all the teams vision wards. I look at the map and nobody has a single ward up, while I'm capped out unless I'm sitting at tower.
