New Effect Idea: Grounded

As more and more champions able to make enemies airborne become popular for aoe cc and yasuo ults, I was wondering if there could be a counter effect for it. My idea is essentially to have a "grounded" effect similar to being airborne. A champion such as Malphite might benefit from this in a rework.

The idea is essentially to have a move like "earthquake" that only affects grounded champions or has an added effect when a champion is grounded. This would also add another dynamic to escape moves, where dashes/flashes may be trumped by jumps in order to avoid these special moves. Also, there may be more moves to force a champion into being grounded, similar to a root, or a move like "gravity" that keeps you from being knocked up (but forces you to be grounded).

I understand this could be a little weird, especially considering champions like Janna who are freely floating when walking. It would be hard to imagine them "grounded" but still able to move in any scenario. Also, it may be hard to figure out whether being grounded is a good thing or a bad thing. It could be considered crowd control at times or a buff at others.

However, I think it would be really cool for a champion to be completely immune to knockup effects for a duration, like an Olaf ult or a Master Yi ult, but specifically for knockups.

So, hold on a second. You want to

  • Add an "Airborne" equivalent status to all of the dashes with jump animations
  • Create a status for enemies that are not Airborne
  • Design abilities to specifically benefit from enemies not being Airborne

Which means that champions like Wukong, Jarvan, Rammus, Yasuo--fuck it, I'm not naming every single knockup, knockback, grab and fling to tell you that you're basically making them all worse for teamwork, because now some abilities benefit from this new "grounded" status.

So essentially a 'special' effect that only works on targets not knocked up? Sorry but thats really stupid.
