Please Never Force PVP Mission Wins

MysterQ··26 votes·1,499 views

This is just the worst grind. I understand companies want to promote their gameplay, but let us play because it is fun. Forcing us like this just sucls.

When the other side gets an Ahri with 25 Mejei stacks for 35 minutes. We got a Plat Riven too, but all she did was split and slowly fed. I mean it was probably a good game, but completely unfun when you don't make any progress all day on this quest.

Not sure why there would be complaints about missions requiring people to win in a game that's about winning... If any of the missions are worth complaining about it's the minion related farm or map specific missions.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

Depends on the minion farming one. If it's a collective one (kill (x) amount of minions), or a team one (kill (x) minions as a team), rather than an in-one-game one (win (x) matches and kill (x) minions in each), it's not that bad - pretty much everyone can do that (supports and junglers will get the first of these done slower, but will still get them done - even a Janna has times she can CS)

Lol.

I am serious. She's able to CS whenever the ADC is at base and she isn't (attack bonus on E really helps here), as well as when she's clearing a wave alone.

While she shouldn't be doing the latter of those, any support that doesn't farm when the ADC is away is just wasting the gold.

Took me 2 days to finally get the win with a Veigar and now there's no more missions left to earn tickets. That just really sucks and for the Kayn event I could never get the last part done on both sides. Being a support main it was hard enough as it was just to get any other quest done in any mode.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

For Veigar, you could have gone to bots. Same for Blitz.

It's what I did. ._.

Making it bots too kinda takes the fun out of it though. HOWEVER...

If they wanted to give a challenge, they shouldn't put a time limit, such a short one at that, to accomplish it. Leave it like one of the in-built quests in a MMORPG, "collect 100 X item from Y mob, it has a 0.2% drop rate but you can finish it whenever you like". That way, while it is still a horrible quest to grind for but if I'm tired from dungeon raiding or level grinding, I might just go hunt one or 2 before going to bed. I would be able to do this since it's not urgent, and I would even enjoy it!

Riot putting an expiry date on the quests makes it urgent to finish, and forces you to do that horrible grind. Kinda takes the fun out of it.

I mean, I cleared them all just playing fairly normally besides the ones that require certain champs and the very last one.

The mission gives you 14 days total, I did it in 3, yall can probably do it in the time we have left.

MysterQ1 votes

They do give a lot of time (thankfully). But why do they have to hide the quests. Let me work on all of them at the same time. That way I know how much time I need to devote. Get 50 assist, get 75 assists.... that is the same quest why do I have to do it twice.

Zezockary1 votes

You can work on all of the different quests at the same time, but not the ones that come after them in their progression line.

It wouldn't make sense to be doing the whole quest line at once.

Well, I have 3 accounts and that feels like a grind. My own problem I guess =(

I never succeeded the Kayn one. I'm just horrible at him, I'll admit that. But after spamming 4 to 5 games with him and feeding hard in all of them, I figured screw that, I'll probably need to play a ton of games to practice on him.

Maybe in my own time, since I don't feel like spamming a single champ over and over and over, heck I don't even spam Shen and Yi even though they are my usual go to champs. Why does it have to be a grind? Even with level grinding - my OCE smurf took 6 years to level. Yup, 6 years. I played 1 or 2 games every week or so, when the ping on NA was bad at my uni. But I didn't hate it, coz I could take my sweet time with it.

My suggestion: Make the quests really really hard, like the mastery 6 and 7 level ups for instance. But don't put a time limit on it so people can work on it at their own pace. Forcing a rush makes it unfun, and obviously if you make it available on bots, that would be boring too.

Zezockary1 votes

It is a limited time event equest for the arcade event. Next patch will be star guardians. It wouldn't make sense to do arcade quests during the star guardian event.

The things you are talking about already exist and fill that gap appropriately.

Also, you don't have to play certain champs for this event. Even the last quests in the line are "win 1 game with this champ in the game". You don't have to be playing them.

Need Gold 4 Tent2 votes

The Kayn one did require you to actually either get a double kill on him or a killing spree in a PvP game playing as him. This event was easy as fuck though, which falls into the other category of "boring" which I also mentioned, as I could finish them in bots.

Zezockary2 votes

Riot said that they were using the Kayn one (I think the Kayn one anyway) as a learning experience to see what kinds of missions people liked for events.

I didn't realize those missions actually required you to play him, as I did all of those missions as him, my bad.

Need Gold 4 Tent3 votes

It would've been good if they gave baddies like me a time to pick up the champ at my own pace. I mean, I could probably pick him up if I did some grinding spamming games with him, but again, my point is... I don't want to do that. It's tedious and I lose interest. I played him sporadically every now and then, failed sometimes and went ok sometimes but didn't achieve the objectives meaning I still had to play him even more.

This is a game, not an assessments, I have enough of those as a student.

The Kayn missions would've been OK, they probably needed to make it harder to make it an eventual goal but remove the time limit on it.

I look forwards to the time missions become a permanent feature to unlock easter eggs (e.g. landing 100 Blitz hooks gives you a title icon that comes with a unique emote perhaps). But those would have to be hidden and the blitz main would get a pleasant surprise at the end of the game that gave him the 100th hook. Could do one for every champ.

Zezockary1 votes

So your issue with events is that they are events? Then don't take part in them, its that easy.

I like the idea in your last paragraph, but not replacing events, alongside them.

My Waifu Vanilla1 votes

The problem is champions like Veigar have such an abysmal pick rate that you are basically forced to play him to get the mission completed.

Zezockary1 votes

Or get any of your friends to do it.

Heck, I will do it any time, I am a Veigar main after all. I get your point but you will probably have friends that can play just about any champ.

MysterQ2 votes

I agree bots kind of make quests completely POINTLESS. But the quests to just Win are already pointless. The goal is always to win, I don't need a quest to tell me to win.

I dislike that A) there is a timelimit (long enough usually). BUT B) there are other hidden quests that I can t get yet. Like I would be fine, but now I have to keep repeating these quests and game modes because they don't line up the order I unlock them in. Like why do I have to beat 5pvp before I win 1Blitzcrank. And you can find the information online, but having it hidden with a time limit makes you wonder will you have enough time to finish all of the hidden quests also. You don't want to finish 5 PVP then find out you got a new 10 PVP quest.

I guess achievements would be slightly different than these monthly quest type things. But right now they are not too fun. (Sorry to complain over "free" stuff).

I don't think Riot sees it that way. Making wining a requirement insures that all parties play to win. And acts as a deterrent for trolls. Riot doesn't see that as pointless, because there's no guaranty that trolls won't ruin peoples games, and Riot doesn't want to give them mission rewards by trolling.

Athenes Lulu2 votes

I feel bad for every random that has to deal with ME as ADC just because I had to finish some kind of "kill _ minions" quest in PvP modes.

MysterQ2 votes

Or the wording this time "Get 8 assist" so people stop helping at 8, even though you can be over 8.

God, people SHOULD do those quests in bot if you are going to literally stop playing.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

You can get more than 8 assists. It was just poor wording on Riot's part.

Noblewind2 votes

Even if you're playing for fun you are still trying to win, and even if you're not doing that (IMO why even play league if you're in this group?) You're still going to win games by playing a decent amount. So what's the issue here? These missions apply to everyone and don't force anything

Bellows2 votes

I think its completely fine as it is.

Catastrop2 votes

I think it's fine, the only thing I have an issue with is map specific quests. If it wasn't for URF, I probably wouldn't have bothered with the Arcade quests.

Sukishoo2 votes

They made them "WINS" cause if you put it as something else then people don't actually try to play the game, they just focus hard on the Mission and if they get what they need then they don't care afterwards.

Mysticman892 votes

Lose streaks feel pretty bad regardless, but you'd feel worse if someone on your own team decides they just want to afk since they didn't need to win for their mission progress.

MysterQ1 votes

but losing and not getting your mission feels worse than any loss streak. you are right, losing because someone afks feels even worse......... except if I got MY mission prize I'd feel less bad. And we all know we'd be trying to complete the missions anyways... and if a person really quits like that the system can catch and punish him.

Playing a 70minute game (when I only play 1-2 games a day (now because of missions, normally I don't)) and then not making progress on this timed mission is just a sad feeling all around.

I need malz, ziggs, and brand but can't get them because either other people don't own them or they friggen reroll them in arurf. Finally had a malz on our team with 4 friggen urf op and the guy rerolls it at at 20 seconds to match start to get a friggen vayne. I alt f4 that lobby so hard!

Ysayle1 votes

I think it should really just be "play X games" instead of "win X games".

If you progress no matter what, even a loss won't feel -AS- bad, because you can tell yourself "at least I got some quest progress, it wasn't all for naught!". As it currently is, it doubles down on the terrible feeling of the loss: "not only did I lose, I have to tag AGAIN if I want to HOPE to progress."

Partholonian1 votes

The "get a double kill as Rhaast" one tilted me off the face of the earth for exactly this reason, so many games that I got absolutely nothing from. And because of the time limit I didn't feel like I could say "I'll try this again later".

I did eventually get it, but took a break from League for over a week afterward. Which of course means I'm missing out on the next set of time limited missions. If the point of designing the system the way it is was to send the message "don't even try to be a mission completist, you will wind up crazier than Jinx", then it worked as intended.

As you can see, I'm still a little salty about the whole experience, and I don't think of myself as a player who tilts easily.

the weeaboo1 votes

so win. you don't deserve the progress if you ain't playing well

MysterQ2 votes

Playing well and winning are separate things. One may help in achieving the other, but you can play the best game ever and still lose. Likewise you can suck and be carried.

My Waifu Vanilla1 votes

My only complaint are the missions that require winning....that aren't even about winning. "Kill 350 minions as a team 5 times....oh but you have to win those 5 games too." Having decent cs and winning the game are very unrelated (especially with a requirement as low as 70 a person) so I don't understand why I have to win the games as well. Another one is having to win a game with any of the "boss" champions on either team. The likelihood I see someone like Ziggs or Veigar are pretty low and Blitzcrank is usually banned so getting them in the game and then WINNING the game seems like a lot to ask for something I do have very little control over. I understand that I COULD play the champions, but Riot specifically said at one point they don't want us to "go out of our way" for the missions yet I could potentially have to play 3+ Veigar games to get the mission completed since I DO have to win the game.

Sohleks1 votes

When the actual steady regular missions hopefully come out the non event missions won't feel like they pressure too much as their rewards are passable or at least it's a non event scenario.
