Problems with Autopathing: A Proposed Solution
Currently I know different players want different things from autopathing, and the current metrics are NOT working for everyone. I would like to propose a solution, which is to have a set of options in the settings for how autopathing works so that it can be customized to work precisely as the player expects it to. For this reason, I wanted to create this thread, so that other players can submit suggestions for things like checkbox, slider, and radio button style options lists that can be used to tweak autopathing to match each player's expected path when they click somewhere.
For a checkbox and slider option, something I would want to see is an option to click on the opposite side of a wall near the wall itself relative to a player's position would cause their Champion to move as close to the wall as possible, rather than trying to go around it (enabling this option is a checkbox, the slider determines how many units from the wall a click could maximally be to trigger this behaviour). This behaviour would be based on the distance from the centre of the wall that the mouse was clicked, not the edge, where the centre is a line equidistant from both sides of the wall (and in the case of the cap on a wall, equidistant from all three sides of a wall), and would walk the champion to the nearest wall edge relative to the champion. The goal of this would be to not have the champion do derpy things when trying to get close enough to a wall to either attack, flash, or dash over it.
Pathing through the jungle needs a fix, but I am unsure what the best approach is. I have been complaining about what autopathing does being unintuitive in game for well over a year now, but I can't seem to pin down exactly why this is, beyond that it feels like it is not the shortest path to the target destination.
Another issue is when I am in dragon/baron pit and trying to auto attack over the wall when my range is sufficient that if I approach the wall I will be able to auto the enemy champion, and autopathing proceeds to move me around dragon pit instead. Like wtf.
Post your ideas for pathing improvements as well.
