What if Sightstone wards gave a some gold to the owner every time they spot a unique enemy?

Hear me out; The idea may be quite optimistic, but I think it could solve a lot of problems for all the positions at many levels of play, but I'm also open to suggestions.

Income for supports is low? Give them a boost to income if they bought a sightstone (and then redemption and other powerful items can be raised in cost for other positions that don't buy sightstone).

Your support doesn't want to ward deep because they'll lose income from relic shield, coin, spell thief's edge, and masteries, ADCs? Bam. Now invades still carry a risk, but the income loss doesn't punish supports for successfully roaming to give better map visibility, so deep warding will happen more.

Worry not, Mids and Junglers, since now the support has more gold to protect the ADC and they both have more vision now, they won't necessarily need your help so often. Furthermore, if bottom is less lethal of a lane, then the lane won't absolutely determine the course of the game as much.

Top, if your jungler isn't so focused on bottom lane thanks to the inflow of warding in the bottom half of the map, that means the jungler can focus on warding and assisting YOUR LANE more.

Now the amount would not be huge. Maybe 25 gold per unique enemy, or a little less than a full minion wave for an excellent ward that spots all enemy team members. Furthermore, there would have to be a timer between sightings for champion sightings so people don't spam four wards in the middle of a team fight for a quick 500 gold. Maybe a thirty second timer unless the wards are, say, two thousand units away from each other.

Every unique champion is kinda wonky. Especially since the wards Primary job in the early game is to spot the Jungler, Yet you would want to place that ward in a more common location to maximize gold.

Try this idea for size.

Unique Passive - Ward Thief: Destroying an enemy Ward grants and additional 50 gold, and adds one charge to your sight stone (180 second cooldown)

This would allow the support to plant more wards, while encouraging them in denying enemy vision.

that would make vision too slowbally tho, as it would basically make it to where the losing team has less vision on top of the enemy having more opportunities to ward while also giving them that much more opportunities to do so.

Shit, the typo in the title is killing me. Shit. Shit. Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.

You can edit the title...

Actually, the title is the only thing you can't edit...

What if we just made it so it gave extra gold/10 for being near an ally champion... Problem solved.

Well, the point is to encourage warding more, and reward players who successfully create effective vision.

See above reply regarding a support item passive that increases gold/5 for each active ward on the map.

Then it would punish supports even more for going to ward since they'll be away from allies.

Not too much. You still spend most of the game in close proximity to your adc or other champions as a support.

Just saw on another thread the idea of "Assist streaks" and scaling assist gold. Also not a bad option to consider as a passive on support gold items. A lot of potential for abuse by junglers there though.

I disagree. Its incredibly mixed of a gameplay message to attach this to an item that encourages doing the opposite of what the item is meant to do.

Wards = leaving to go secure vision.

proximity gold = never leave your allies side. its to conflicting.

and as a whole i just don't like the idea of giving supports that much less freedom and autonomy.

This already exists in the game for the purpose of death streaks. Putting it in the game for the purpose of gold earnings would simply inflate ambient gold across the board because supports aren't the only ones getting assists.

At that point just buy item 1082 . Making it so broad will make it abused no matter what or force itemization even more on supports, which is the opposite of what we are trying to do.

All very valid arguments. My concern with tying gold to ward vision is that it will encourage taking high risk warding trips that end up making for dead supports and fed enemy junglers. Also, the gold income would be fairly unreliable.

How about a passive on support items that increases gold/5 for every ward they currently have on the map? encourages warding, specific to supports so it can't be abused, doesn't tie them down, doesn't encourage overly risky warding...yea i think that would do it.

But the problem is it encourages overly safe/pointless warding.

Support would resort to placing 3 wards in fountain between every back. ;P

Not really because then you'd have the issue of not having wards in lane. Dumping a ward just to get the passive gold would screw you in terms of long-term vision. If you wanted to dump 3 wards in base when you backed, that'd mean all your existing wards on the map would disappear. If you want to dump 3 wards in fountain, refill wards, and walk to lane because you have no wards currently up on the map, I say go ahead.

But the second you start dropping wards on top of your turret just for gold income, you're going to find yourself short on vision and its going to hurt the team (not to mention people will know what you're doing and flame you for wasting wards for gold especially since even when ur pushed to turret, there are at least 1-2 places still worthy of dropping a ward.

Dude, we are talking about league of legends where people dont even ward as is.

The suggestion would encourage people to put wards where they won't be found foremost and where they will be useful second.

You are relying to much on the expectations of players to be sensible here. Not a very good balancing leaver.

Like I said, stupid warding for gold = no vision = losses.

If supports want to continue to win games, they will continue to ward as well as they ever have. So no i'm not relying on them to be sensible, I'm relying on them to be self serving. Do you think 95% of supports give a shit how much gold they had if they end up winning the game? Nope, no fucks given I guarantee.

However, what this will accomplish is it will ensure that supports are KEEPing wards up and buying control wards. Between trinkets, sightstone, and control wards, Bot lane should generally be lit up like a christmas tree. But it never is. If they made wards passive gold generators, i bet it would be.

It would also significantly encourage people to look for/scan for placed enemy wards throughout the game. This would make the vision war much more relevant even at low elo.

EDIT: This isn't a balancing issue, its a QOL issue. Supports are able to do support things fine and influence the game in big ways right now even with less gold. The issue is that we want to make support and doing support things more rewarding. Thats a QOL issue. And even if it were a balance issue, would you suggest that we balance around the lowest common denominator? If thats the game you're looking for, go play Pong or Pac Man.

ChaddyFantome1 votes

This is far from just a QoL adjustment. this is HUGE and would have large affects on the vision game.

As for the rest, you are letting the entire point fly over your head. If it truly was that simple, people would be warding as well as they do in competitive right now but ofc that isn't the case. Instead we have even platinum players not buying Sightstone at all.

The entire design philosophy of your idea is simply confused and contradictory.

..im .. not trying to "win" anything. The fact that you believe this is what this was about is rather worrisome tbh.

Tbh I never have a problem with gold on supports, because the core items are cheap. Just in terms of full items, I'm usually not far behind anyone else. It's just after I finish them and I go for that slightly more expensive tank item that I need gold but by then nobody will care if I steal a wave off a side lane.
