Mordekaiser Needs Help On Health Sustain Early & Mid-Early Game On PBE

Even with both Spell Vamp runes and Masteries (Vampirism), he's only able to obtain a maximum of 8% spell vamp, which is clearly not enough to sustain his health cost for his 5th ranked E, which cost 72 health, and on top of that it is an AoE ability, meaning that his spell vamp is reduced to only 2.66%. As a matter of fact, all of his NON* ULTIMATE* ABILITIES* are AoE, meaning that they only benefit from a minuscule amount of spell vamp. His Q proc's spell vamp as an AoE, and costs about 32 health to activate (which you can potentially negate the health cost if you purchase more ability power with magic penetration, which will solely be based on the enemy champion's magic resistance) and his w cost 65 Health and moreover, it's heal is situational (it doesn't negate the health cost at all if you use it towards an enemy minion and most importantly, most Mordekaiser players do not rank this to lvl 5 during their early and mid game levels from 1 to 13, unless they're playing as a support or a utility jungler (the most rarest selection to play). Even so, it still does not quite give him the echelon to live after a level 1 to 9 duel with his opposing laner and in addition to this, with no spell vamp item above 10% (unless you obtain defensive runes along with health Quintessences, select the resolve tree, and rush a tanky build item like a spirit visage or deadman's plate as your first item, and even critically speaking, that will take beyond level 6 to obtain).

So to sum it up, since we're obviously not going to get a re compensation for Will of the Ancient's passive or even Hextech Gunblade, why don't you lower the health cost of Mordekaiser's W and actually buff the heal that it will harvest, along with a shorter cooldown? I mean, just play him for yourself and see how he becomes a suicide fanatic early to mid early game (must be forced to build more then 500 HP in order to survive a duel).

What you guys think?

Old Mordekaiser could make use of spell vamp, and kind of needed it.

The reworked Morde we see now has crazy sustain built into his W.

E cost isn't an issue; you should be maxing that last, or second to last.

You can win duels easily by prioritizing W in lane.

I take AP and Magic Pen runes and storm raiders surge mastery.

buy a dorans shield and stay in lane until you can buy Jarum's fist, spectre's cowl, or sorcerer's boots, depending on your needs.

I stopped building spellvamp on Morde since the update until I already have item 3116, boots and item 3053.

Edit: W heal (even on rank one) is enough to sustain him once you familiarize with his shield.

I'd like to discuss this with you. I'll go through what you've posted.

First of all, regarding spell vamp. Spell vamp has not been a requirement since the rework thanks to W. Even before the rework, it was only a requirement in certain situations.

The point you made about W: 'most Mordekaiser players do not rank this to lvl 5 during their early and mid game levels from 1 to 13, unless they're playing as a support or a utility jungler (the most rarest selection to play).'.

The thing is, Mordekaiser mains DO take this early and mid. In fact, most of us max W first! This gives incredible sustain when used on enemy champions and jungle minions, and I have not had any issues with it as of yet.

The lack of compensation for removing spell vamp is a good point. The only time I'd consider spell vamp on current Morde is when the numbers are better than alternative options. For example, for my 3rd or 4th item, I'd used to pick up Will of Ancients because the AP, CDR and Spell Vamp made it the best numerical option at the time. This later changed to Gunblade due to the active utility, and finally Nashor's Tooth when I was taught how powerful this was for Morde's whole kit and not just Q's. Fortunately, Gunblade will still be around, but people who liked Will of Ancients will be forced to changed their playstyle.

On the brightside, we're gaining CDR on items that didn't have it before and were already useful on Morde, such as Abyssal Scepter, so it's a bit of give and take. I wouldn't say no to lowering Morde's health costs or at least increasing his health regen to come into line with other champions. The first 3 levels of the laning phase have always been the hardest, even against relatively weak laners.
