I don't really get Shen

To clarify I know how his kit works. I just don't understand what Riot was actually thinking here. I've been playing him alot recently to try him out since his rework.. And overall it just feels pretty underwhelming compared to old Shen

Why am I relying on some ghost sword to begin with? Why does he get outclassed by alot of top laners? Why am I allowed to be completely ignored late game cause of lack of damage. An ULT shield that become rather Irrelevant cause of all the Absurd damage.

Sure I get a quick taunt But after I use that its pretty much:

Enemy team:" lulz no energy left. By Shen, gonna kill your ADC now"

There's so much effort needed to utilize his kit to even optimize him fully. But the problem is that there are numerous other champions who do similar things he does but with less effort and more effectiveness and that's a huge issue.

I think it's funny that Shen gets to ignore auto attacks for 1.75 seconds for fighting in his zone, but Yasuo gets to ignore just about every ranged attack and ability in the game for 4 seconds fighting on top of his wall. Sure, Shen helps his allies out a little bit, potentially, but placing the field on top of the squishies while doing other Shen things is pretty difficult.

I really don't understand how you can say other champions do his job better and easier when he has a global teleport to an ally.

I don;t see how you are able to judge him? Your gameplay with him is recent, and rather lack luster... Your games last between 20-40 minutes and your average cs? 102.4... So even if the game was 20 minutes you are barely maintaining a 50% cs ratio with everything that comes into lane. This is on top of your build pathing and strategy. I haven't touched him in a while, but he is strong, extremely so.

Effort? I press q ult. upon landing instantly w protecting the target from further damage auto, auto, dash q. The reason you are ignored is because of your items and build. Not only can he turn a fight he can trade pressure for objectives faster than anyone. To me, this is just a sign you don;t know what you are doing with shen yet... Give him time you will learn him.

honestly, Shen jungler(currently grinding lvl5's)

RIOT was thinking that we should make a champion that's a bully in lane and is extremely hard to kill.

I pretty much stopped playing Shen since the rework. His older kit allowed him to support but his new one does not. I don't think his kit is bad, I think it is pretty underwhelming and not very fun to play.

I feel like with the new shen you need to really outplay your opponent to win lane due to the weakness of his kit compared to other champions.

I have seen some red posts that suggested that the spirit sword hasn't hit quite the thematic mark they thought it would, so you aren't alone in that regard. However, it's not so bad that they are going to take time out of the schedule to change it soon.

I didn't play a lot of old Shen and have only played some new Shen, so my opinions have limited experience backing them. I don't feel like Shen is any more ignorable than before. Probably less ignorable because of his new Q and W.

As far as what Riot was going for, I'd start with his champion update page (http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/page/champion-update-shen):

We wanted to put into effect a pretty fundamental change to his combat patterns by giving Shen and his opponent more things to do and think about during each game. ... Basically, we’re fine with Shen engaging in extended one-on-one duels, but we want those fights to be a bunch more engaging and skill-based than they were.

and

Shen’s all about positioning, maneuvering around his opponent so his Q casts pull his spirit blade through his enemy

His E and R appear to be equivalent in intention to the previous kit, with the same general uses as before.

His Q and W were totally replaced, and with them his laning pattern. He no longer has sustain, but seems to have decent trading potential.

The new Q and W also give him more possibilities in teamfights (do I bring the sword with me and drop the dodge field on the front line or save it to peel the carries from a dive?). This is an improvement over maybe shield myself if I have energy and do a bit of damage and hope the carries can heal off my mark.
