Getting really tired of people complaining about Hextech Crafting

Mimaropa·3/31/2016, 9:00:58 PM·51 votes·3,508 views

I don't understand these people. Complaining about how generous Riot is. Its like when you give someone a cookie for free and after they ate the whole thing, they demand a whole box of it(which they also ask it to be free).

"champion shards and blue shards are worthless" - said by a person who has every champion in the game with a small loan of a million ip. I mean new players are having a ridiculous time grinding for their favorite champ that costs 6300 ip. Just because you cant use it doesn't mean everyone is too.

"Ughh. I got a bad skin/I already got this skin. Its impossible to get the skin that I want which is a legendary that costs 3k+ rp" - said by delusional person. Do you really expect to get everything you want? these spoiled rich kids, man. From the amount of things you can get from the box, there's like 0.001% chance you get what you want(not accurate. mystically guessing). Also adding that, If riot made the drop rate of rare skins a bit high, they will lose money. Its free!

"I paid 300$ dollars and got bad stuff. Not worth buying this anymore!" - said by a delusional person with high hopes and deep pockets. It is understandable that one is to be angry when paying stuff which comes out to be a pile of merde. Its based out of luck, you should've expected to get a couple of things you do not like. It also could mean that riot is enabling gamblers.

"I was banned and I can't use Hextech boxes" - said by a toxic person and who is now going to post things on boards about it. Its a good way for Riot to punish toxic challenjour players. I feel blessed and happy. "I was banned just once a long time ago, I don't deserve this!" - Once you joined the dark side you cant go back.

I am going to add more but I feel lazy. Sorry for my bad English and venting.

While i do agree that majority of these people complaining really have no reason to, in defense of the people who own all the champions (as someone who does own all the champions) it does suck that one of the feature on this is basically not being used. We can only save them for the eventual new champion and even then we should only need 3. The rest will basically just sit in our stash (what ever its called) and is basically wasted. We cant disenchant it because it will only give us Essence that can get Champion. In my opinion there should have just been one type of Essence to unlock either a skins or champions. But aside from that. im not sure what they can do for people like me who own all the champions (and to the same extent people who own all skins) but i do feel like they should do something.

I think paying for RNG is just stupid as a concept, especially when you're not guaranteed something you don't have. As an example, if I payed for a Crate and and Key, then got a Tristana champion shard, a champion who costs minimal IP and is available for free with Riots program, I would be very upset, regardless if I owned her or not. Not only that, Hextech chests will unlock you a skin for a champ you don't own, forcing you do wait until you've unlocked that champ (basically funneling you towards a champ you might not even want to try, just because you unlocked a skin) instead of giving you a skin you can use and experience now.

A crappy gift is worse than no gift. Obviously, rationally Hextech Crafting is a pure bonus, but once you start "earning" things for S-rank performances and victories, you start to feel entitled to something that's worth your efforts. Therefore getting something useless feels like a slap in the face, even though you're no worse off than you were before Hextech Crafting started.

I was with you until I got here.

I've never been banned or chat restricted, but this is bullshit. Players who were toxic already paid for it by being chat restricted or being banned. Why are they being punished after serving their sentence? To give people like you someone to look down on?

"Once you joined the dark side you cant go back", lol, this stupid bullshit statement really demonstrates how self-righteous and petty people like you are, and how bullshit America's legal system is.

Grow up kid. You're not special.

I completely agree with you. IT'S FREE >.> If you're spending RP on it, you should realize that there is a chance you won't get exactly what you want. Hextech is similar to mystery gifts; you're agreeing to get something random. If you want a specific skin, JUST BUY IT FROM THE STORE jeeeeeez. [zombie-brand-facepalm] Hextech is great for the players who can't spare some money on much or any RP to enjoy some stuff from the shop.

I like when people gets annoyed at others complaining about free stuff. You do know Riot gives you free stuff so that you spend money on their game, right? That waitress in the restaurant you went to smiled and gave great service to you because she wants as much tip as she can get, you know that right?

Stop telling people "Don't complain about Riot giving you free stuff, it's free", because the free is not actually free, it's complimentary.

Downshift3/31/2016, 10:40:57 PM4 votes

Its like the people that complain about the free wifi not working...... Its the result of an entire generation raised to not be thankful and always expect more.....for free.

Flying Buntcake3/31/2016, 9:03:19 PM4 votes

I think they're pretty fair, and although it sucks you can get all your chests and key fragments in a day, at the end of the day, it's free and reasonable.

said by a person who has every champion in the game with a small loan of a million ip. I mean new players are having a ridiculous time grinding for their favorite champ

i think this is the core problem. For new players, there is massive content and they have to grind quite a lot to unlock even the minimum for ranked play, which can feel quite exausting for new players. At the same time, vetrans kinda get frustraited by sitting on tons of IP with not a single use for it. And now they got something new that they can earn and never use. Sure, hectchcraftin grants potentially free skins so one shouldn't complain, but openeing a chest and getting a champion-shard that you'll never be able to use still feels really frustraiting. Within the last years, there was done next to nothing for either new players nor for long time veterans, and i can perfectly understand why some players are annoyed by that and vent their frustration by complaining about hextech-crafting.

Saianna3/31/2016, 11:44:13 PM3 votes

My only 2 issues with Hextech is:

  1. ARAM players are not eligible for chests (which might change "eventually", a.k.a never)
  2. Key drops are bugged in ARAM (which should be easily 5 minute fix, but gonna be draggen trough few patches because SR>fleas>bacterias>shit on your shoe > ARAM priorities

And even then I'll have shitton of keys (once they'll fix it eventually) with not even 1 chest to open.

I saw that Donald Trump reference. Have an upvote and this W.

WadeWilson13374/1/2016, 6:33:15 AM2 votes

Well, because i play alot of champions, i got all my 4 free chests in less than 10 games. Unfortunately, i have no key fragments.

"But Wade, you got all 4 chests, of course you should be short on keys, its only been two weeks!"

Ah, but here is the thing. I went on the longest winning streak of my entire life (28), and have actually played ALOT since Hextech came out because i wanted to grind everything out nicely. With over 60 games won, i have only gotten 6 key fragments, and it took me 33 to get my 6th fragment. Assuming that i had a perfectly average winrate of 50%, that would mean it would take me 240 games to unlock all of my 4 keys. But that is not all, the key drops at an exponentially decreasing rate. That means it would likely take me 300-400+ games in a month just to get all 4 of my keys.

Dont tell me not to be pissed off about that.

PDE5 Inhib4/1/2016, 1:07:10 PM2 votes

Right? This game is literally free to play because of the money they make off skins and shit (well now LCS too), but people want to bitch because they don't get ENOUGH FREE SKINS. Like, some free shit isn't good enough, they want to get a ton of it for free...even though it's how rito makes their money and is able to allow me to play the game without paying.

Quepha4/1/2016, 8:53:53 PM1 votes

Riot previously admitted that they felt IP costs for runes and champions were too steep and contributing to a poor new player experience and this is what they said they were working on as a solution for it. It's a very valid criticism to claim that this system doesn't do enough to alleviate what Riot has admitted to be a real problem for the game.

ComannderShepard3/31/2016, 11:06:31 PM1 votes

I agree, even though I dont use it much because It takes me a while to get the keys its nice to be able to get something for free every once in a while

Dragonlord71374/1/2016, 1:03:42 AM1 votes

One thing most people forgot about hextech crafting is that Riot announced a feature where you could use champion shards to reach mastery level 6 and 7. The reason for this was so people who own all the champions still have a reason to collect the champion shards. Yes it hasn't been implemented yet but it should be soon as long as this post is still true. http://boards.pbe.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/general-pbe-feedback/XT7eu7jz-champion-mastery-level-6-7 here is where to find the file and the names of each rank: https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/46lauk/i_found_the_names_of_champion_mastery_6_and_7_for/ and here are what the icons look like: http://imgur.com/a/Y3t9t

Hextech is supposed to be a reward system right? RNG, fine. But why have champs i own and skins to champs I don't in the mix? I can kind of understand if it's through free boxes and such but if you have paid for keys and boxes it's kind of bullshit. I don't really mind if It takes me a whole week to get enough key frags for one box. It's free so I'm fine with that. However, it IS a nice "fuck you" to all the grinding and effort you put in to get them when you get something thats only good for scrap. If I get a champion I don't own or want, fine. To the scrap. A skin I don't like for one of my champions? Fine, to the frags it goes. Getting a frickin champion I already paid for and skins I don't even have a champ for? What are you trying to tell me, I'm a sucker for thinking this is an actual rewards system and not some gambling cash grab? Oh wait.

Spacesuit Spiff4/1/2016, 8:53:11 AM1 votes

Ive been enjoying it very much, though ill admit that the "3 chests and no keys" everyone experienced after the first week was a bit of an oversight.

As for the people who bought these even though they own all champs and skins they like... the hell were they expecting?

Malix Farwin4/1/2016, 9:20:05 AM1 votes

Yes it is free but you don't exactly get it. At the end of the day even if a system in place like that is free then it becomes pointless if the system is not working properly. May as well not exist. Those who aren't complaining about it likely do not care and pretend like it doesn't exist and those who do actually give a crap about it. Unless you really want hex-tech Annie, in most cases you will just forget about it and move on.

TheDráco4/1/2016, 9:57:11 AM1 votes

God forbid people point out the flaws in a very flawed system along with all the other flawed systems this game has.

ElricShinto4/1/2016, 11:59:12 AM1 votes

Well... don't surf the forums and thus go looking for them? I swear this is like shooting yourself in the foot and bitching that your foot hurts.

a) just because its free, doesnt mean there isnt room for improvement

b) this thing is still heavily rng based, and its a huge disappointment when you get a lot of champion shards when you already have every single champion.

people who have all the champions didnt get "a small loan of a million ip". theyre just veteran players who played this game for a very long time and unlocked all champions over the years.

do you really want to give me shit about having started at this game earlier than you and playing endless hours to unlock those champions?

right now it just means players that have been dedicated and loyal enough to play the game for years get only half out of the system. no, its not the end of the world, but it was a forseeable issue.

420Templar4/1/2016, 3:25:00 PM1 votes

I love Hextech Crafting. I thoight rerolling skin shards would give you a new shard but I got a free skin! I'm so glad I didn't read anything about it and ended up pleasantly surprised

Hollowchazz4/1/2016, 3:25:34 PM1 votes

Might as well prevent people who are chat restricted/banned from using flash or getting all their ip from their game. ive never been banned but I don't think its fair to block those people from getting boxes, I mean if they were banned for a week that should be fine, No reason to add more punishments..

whats next "you can't play the new weekly rotation queue"?

How about just make a yearly skin that everyone who has gone unbanned gets. kind of like how theres a yearly victorious skin and a yearly championship skin, There could be one more for good behavior. You could also make it so players who were reported more than 25% of their games also don't get it (I say 25% because everyone gets reported for "feeding" once in a while by some toxic player)

yay nibbers4/1/2016, 3:44:56 PM1 votes

Paying for a chest and/or key and getting a champion shard is the worst though, it's already something I can earn for free. That's my one complaint, however. People complaining about not getting enough keys or what have you should feel lucky that we get the keys for free at all. Riot could have modeled it after Valve's crate&key system and made us pay 2.50 USD for keys (or 3.25 CAD in my case) and really gamed us for money. Instead we have a completely free (albeit slow) loot system.

We could be getting keys at a rate of one every two months and it would still be a net gain.
