New Rylai's + Malz minions

so with the new rylai's all plants, turrets, timbers, morde ults, any pet/minion summon will proc a 20% slow on hit. i heard malz minions will not get the slow on hit because "they are not a spell, the just proc from you using spells"...

is this true?
