Sona:

Arguments for nerfing

  1. Above average win rate at 54%

Counter Argument 1: Low Play rate. Why this matters? Lower play rates imply that the people playing the character are either mains of the character, or someone who knows a main who encourages to play them. Characters like Leona and Blitz for example, have 4 times the play rate of Sona, This indicates that these charactesr are "gotos" or characters that people goto when forced to support, not ACTUAL people who main the character. The win rate of said character can then be assumed to be below average due to inflated loses due to none support mains playing support.

Counter Argument 2: Low play rate leads to low experience. With 8% play rate, most people rarely see Sona, much less know her numbers and capabilities. This means that most players are more likely to be caught off guard by sona then they are of Blitz/Thresh/Leona since you see them 4 times as often. This also means that the mains of Sona probably know the matchups very well since they see them much more frequently.

This leads to a higher win rate then is "actually" expected due to the idea of equal skill players with equal knowledge playing against eachother

Counter Argument 3: Sona potentially is a counter pick for commonly picked characters. Say Sona has a 60/40 matchup in her favor against blitz/leona(which is my experience) but a 40/60 to thresh. That means that she leads to higher wins since blitz/Leona/thresh all have 30% play rates, making them common matchups and at least in my opinion, she does well against two of the three. Once again, inflating her win rate.

Well no shit? A lot of the people that play her are those that stuck with her through to the end. The rework and whoever worked on it (Sorry Rioter I don't remember your name) are both godly in my book since it made an unviable champ once again viable.

So it's basically the few people that do play her, KNOW how to play her.

Pika3101 votes

it made an unviable champ once again viable.

Mathematics, first-hand experience and competitive trends prove otherwise. Sona was the 2nd-3rd most played support during the month before she was nerfed 20 weeks ago. Pre-nerf Sona was even viable enough to be played and win in LCS, but at worlds nerfed-Sona got completely shat on. Her assailant's name is Fearless and he's officially the enemy of all true Sona fans.

Your misplaced adoration should be redirected to Ezreal and Shurelia who designed and worked on her in the distant past.

yeah because champions that die in 1-2 hits are so OP obvious sign you are bad at the game lol

Looks like she was stronger the you and other people gave her credit for.

nah she was gutted to oblivion its just that riot has downs and thinks all sona players must go 0-20 every game and its their duty to power feed enemy team

SPOILERS: sona is a mage aka someone that does damage and scales with ap to do more damage

she is more squishy than dog shit in the microwave to do her "ubur d@m@g3" that makes her go oom instantly AND takes damn near a minute to charge up on average she has to get within 550 range of you AKA you can easily just flash and 100-0 her if you arent bronze 5

you just pay attention to her casts and when she does the most obvious telegraphed aggro you flash and kill her

she isnt ulting for 640 damage at level 6 like syndra idk why people think she hits hard nami wayyyyyyyyyy out damages her entire kit and has more range or didnt you kids ever do the damn math?

THIS.

She's basically the highest risk/reward champ in the GAME. Yeah you do fuck tons of damage, but only after you fill out the prerequisites. And even then, you'd probably die before you can get a shot off.

Pika3101 votes

Actually, she's high risk/low reward. There is no "tons of damage," Hymn has the lowest base damage amongst the entire support class, tied with 3 others: Leona's Q (W + E do more) and Taric's E + W. Except in Sona's case, it's her only damage spell. It's her only damage spell AND it has the lowest base in her whole class. Just for a final comparison: level 3 Sona's full trade is 100 + 1.0 AP damage and Nami's is 220 + 1.6 AP.

And Nunu comes jam packed with a heavy slow. So basically it's a combo of Sona and Nasus. Yet NERF SONA!!! Cause Riot is too stupid to figure out what the term Balance means.

"Sona's been on the rise due to her ability to turn almost any extended fight in her favor. While we like the Maven getting some recognition, we're looking to reduce her raw trading power so that the great Sonas will need to tightly manage their shields and auras rather than spamming W (that's a tactic for the 'good' Sonas)."

Meanwhile Nami/Soraka.

I should spam Mid Sona once league is back up; I'm going to miss the %missing health scaling so so much ;_____;

Why are you 1v52 votes

Who thought Sona needed a nerf? Anyone who has played against her. -Oppressive poke -Outrageous sustain -Locket shield every few seconds -mini-Talisman speedup every few seconds -Can't catch her. Can't catch her team. Can't run from her team. -Ult that can be used for engage, disengage, and can completely change the outcome of a teamfight.

Sona in ARAM is auto-win.

Fizz? Single-target. Once his CDs are blown he's harmless. Kat? If you didn't bring the one stun it takes to shut her down, that's your problem Morg? Point taken. She's auto-win in ARAM too, but she takes a little more skill. Vayne? Really capped by the skill she takes. A good Vayne is ridiculous, but good Vaynes are few and far between. WW? Useless without items. Lee Sin? Again, takes skill. An average Lee is nothing but a feeder.

Sona is easy to position, and positioning is all she needs to do her job. She's the reverse of Mundo -- instead of a tank sitting in the enemy team burning them down and slowing, she's a squishy who sits in her team healing and speeding them up.

Sona in ARAM is auto-win.

You lost me with that sentence. You can't balance a nerf a champ in two maps and expect it to be fine in both maps. That's why Riot doesn't balance SR with ARAM in mind. I've said this before, but I guess people just don't care.

Fizz? Single-target. Once his CDs are blown he's harmless.

So is literally every other champ that doesn't mainly rely on AAs.

Zakennayo2 votes

Whoever Fizz targets. Is dead. There is no What if in that sentence. It's simply W-Q-E win. He's high reward no risk.

Higher risk then Fizz, but the reward tends to be a lot less if the team can focus. A well timed Kat can penta easily though.

Don't question bugged stat Morg. Her ratios are broken at the moment and she's doing way more damage then she should with her AoE Pool. Not to mention her Q hitbox is MASSIVE.

It's not hard to be good with Vayne. She's one of those champs that plays itself when you get the right build.

WW wins with one item. Spirit Visage. The massive sustain can out tank and out duel most any other champ. Not to mention he's a decent chaser.

Lee doesn't take skill. He takes 1 item to win. It's not hard to land that Q, It moves as fast as Ezreals Q, and the same hitbox as Morgana. Now if the speed was half of Ahri's E. Then it'd be fine. Ahri's E is the third slowest projectile in the game. Next to Janna's Q and Leona's Q.

Why are you 1v51 votes

I don't own Sona, but when she's free week in ARAM I do better on her than I do with my main. She's just ridiculously easy to play. If you think Vayne is easy to play, stop your complaining and play Vayne. I'll laugh at you while you feed.

Zakennayo3 votes

Yeah. Umm. Bullshit?

It's nice to lie so blatantly isn't it?

I don't play Vayne because she's easy to play. Alongside Trist, Corki, Lucien, and Twitch. I tend to stick to Sivir and Miss Fortune.

Sailor Mint2 votes

The biggest issue right now is that her heal is currently healing for half than intended.

Pika3101 votes

I'd say the bigger issue is that she factually has the weakest and most mana-intensive heal in the entire game. Its base value is only HALF the mean, median and mode of heal spells.

  • Sona: 30
  • Mean: 63.75
  • Median: 60
  • Mode: 60
