Death's Dance is great

No, seriously. It's a damage item that makes you tankier without even trying. Why the hell don't more people build it?

Yeah, when it was announced and people saw it, loads of people were saying it was OP without even playing with it. Then after 5.22, it turned out it actually wasn't OP and nobody actually used it.

It probably just has too much competition. item 3031 and item 3508 are just so good right now, so you really only have space for one more AD item. And item 3072 takes up a lot of the same niche; a damage item that makes you tankier. However, BT has 20% lifesteal vs Death's Dance's 15% of all physical damage, and, more importantly, the shield from BT is larger than the damage Death's Dance would turn to bleed if you lost your whole health bar twice.

What? No. Death's Dance on an ADC increase their effective HP to about 2300, which is roughly the same as BT at 18. The difference between the two is the following: CDR and all physical damage spell vamp vs more effective LS

DD will be uses more on people like MF and Lucian while BT will be uses on Ash and Vayne.

Well, depending. Death's Dance is actually way more fantastic in that it reduces burst damage. You put it on an ADC to reduce the effectiveness of assassins essentially.

But it's even better on bruisers and bulky carries like Wukong, Illaoi, Fiora, GP, etc. because a lot of their abilities then heal them on top of 15% of all damage being moved to a bleed over several seconds. You can essentially walk in, get CC'd to hell, unload what you can and flash out and still be able to sustain yourself enough to live afterward without worry. It's a bloody fantastic item and borders on broken when coupled with the right champs.

Ah, they buffed the shield this patch, no wonder my numbers were coming out different now. I did the calculation before preseason started, got something like 150 effective health left over in bleed after 2 seconds (you get nuked in the first second and take 1/3 the bleed in the next second) when it was 12% and BT was 350 shield. Now it's more like 200. Which is still a bit less, but not a lot less.

Yeah, actually, that makes the item a lot better. Compares much better to Bloodthirster now; gives more healing if your spells do at least 1/3 as much as your autos. However, you still have to deal with the bleed eventually.
