Can Someone Explain This Ranked To Me?

I went 4:5 in wins and was placed in bronze 5. I was silver 5 in preseason, my friend was also Silver 5, he went 5:5 in placements and got bronze 4. My other friend never did ranked before, went 5:5 and got bronze 1. I know he isn't gonna climb well but how is that fair when our wins and previous ELO was higher?

These placements never made sense... like season 4 I ended in Gold, then season 5 placements I went 5-5 and got Silver III, climbed back to Silver II and just kind of left it there. So this season I go 4-6 and still get placed Silver III.. what? lol. Riots system is really screwy and doesn't make sense.

This season they made a much harder reset than before. This is due to the new champ select. THe idea being that if you get the roles you wanted that you should climb faster and easier than before.

You and the friend who were ranked last season get a harsher reset because you were ranked last season. They have a physical number that they can pull from and compare. Your third friend didn't so their ranking is based like everyone elses with it being loosely based on your Normals Draft MMR. This makes it easier for him to place higher initially. This also typically means that he is higher than he should be like more peoples first time placing (and not a smurf or from other MOBA)

Silver 5 actually is a worse rating than never having played ranked before. That's why your other friend got placed higher.

Also depends on which matchs you lost.

Each match put you in a diff elo group

Silver 3 (i'm pretty sure) is the starting point.

Then you move up Silver 2-1 Gold 5-4-3 depending on where you were, Which matchs you win, Which you lose Vs which players will change your elo.

Someone who ends plat 1 and gos 5-5 will probably end up in gold 3 or something.
