@Anyone from Riot, some insight on SUPPORTS, specifically Soraka?

Heyo!

My name's Tyler. I've been playing League of Legends since roughly 2011. I've always played, have mained and enjoyed the role as a support, specifically as an enchanter. Let's get down to what I'm potentially trying to strike down with this post. For starters, Soraka!

Soraka Soraka

According to her backstory, Soraka's a fallen Celestial that was willingly stripped of her powers to live and protect mortals originating in Valoran (maybe not specifically JUST the people of Valoran, but generally the human race) due to the conflict between her and pre-doggo Warwick. If you don't know of that conflict, basically Warwick brought his dead wife to Soraka where she previously resided, The Enchanted Grove, hoping she would be able to heal his wife but it was too late. He had left in grief and returned in anger in the following days stating vengeance of his late wifes murder would be his only peace. Over the time Soraka has known Warwick.. she had grown attached to him. She begged him otherwise but he didn't listen, soon after Soraka left her grove and "stepped into the mortal world for the first time" and found Warwick fending off a group of men. Every wound that was healed was replaced with another two wounds. In that moment she knew she would have to use her powers to help her "friend". "The stars screamed in her mind, telling her not to use her powers for harm. Ignoring their warning, she struck the attackers with a flash of brilliant light. Crying out in terror and shielding their eyes from her divine radiance, they fled". She became a mortal as her celestial form faded away. After she had assisted what she called her friend, Warwick slipped a dagger into her ribs. She then called upon the stars one last time to harm and cursed him as he retreated. "No longer bound to the grove, Soraka set out into the mortal world, vowing to heal the wounded and protect the helpless".

I've have played Soraka for what's almost like forever, and for a long time it feels like she's not really relevant anymore. Every since the changes that Riot made to her during season 5 I believe (?) more specifically her Q, she was gutted. Yes you could say she is in an O.K. spot but that's not good enough for me when we consistently see things like Janna, Leona, Nami, and even Sion (?????) spiking up good win ratios. Soraka has NOT been in the spotlight for years and that's not okay, it feels she's being neglected. I've heard things that it could be because that Riot doesn't like balancing healers, they're tired of working on Soraka specifically, she's got a boring kit, etc etc. I love Soraka, I love her kit, I love the idea of her lore being this almighty Celestial.. her love for humanity that made her sacrifice her celestial form to protect and assist the helpless. The concept of this champion is amazing and everything for me haha. (Maybe irrelevant) Every MMO/MMORPG I play I ALWAYS go with the healer because I love being the reason my team succeeds, and being recognized for my efforts. Let's look at where she is and how she's progressed over the years.

Note: She also doesn't have that celestial feel.. for Swain, he's now got that whole domination feel. He can control battles, annihilate his target, and has a game changing kit. Not saying Soraka doesn't but it just doesn't feel up to standards. Same thing with Irelia and how Riot portrayed her to be, she fits her theme much more than she did.

#CURRENTLY

>Q - Starcall // Cost: 40/45/50/55/60 Mana - Range: 810 A star falls from the sky at the target location dealing magic damage and slowing enemies. If an enemy champion is hit by Starcall, Soraka recovers health and gains movement speed when moving away from enemy champions. Calls down a star from Soraka to a target location. Enemies standing in the explosion radius take 70/110/150/190/230 (+35% Ability Power) magic damage and are slowed by 30% for 2 seconds. If Starcall hits a champion Soraka gains Rejuvenation for 4 seconds, which restores 14/16/18/20/22 (+0) health per second and grants 10% movement speed when not moving toward enemy champions.

>W - Astral Infusion // Cost: 10% Max Health, 50/55/60/65/70 Mana - Range: 550 Soraka sacrifices a portion of her own health to heal another friendly champion. Restores 80/110/140/170/200 (+60% Ability Power) health to another champion ally.If cast while affected by Rejuvenation, Soraka will grant her target its benefits for 0 seconds.Cannot be cast if Soraka is below 5% Health.

>E - Equinox // Cost: 70 Mana - Range: 925 Creates a zone at a location that silences all enemies inside. When the zone expires, all enemies still inside are rooted. Creates a zone at target location for 1.5 seconds, dealing 70/110/150/190/230 (+40% Ability Power) magic damage to enemy Champions in the cast radius. Enemy Champions standing in the zone are silenced until they leave. When the zone disappears, all enemy Champions still standing in the zone are rooted for 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 second(s) and are dealt 70/110/150/190/230 (+40% Ability Power) magic damage.

>**R - Wish **// Cost: 100 Mana - Range: 25000 (global ult) Soraka fills her allies with hope, instantly restoring health to herself and all friendly champions. Calls upon divine powers to restore 150/250/350 (+55% Ability Power) Health to all allied Champions. Wish's power is increased by 50% on each Champion below 40% Health.

##What are the issues with this current kit?

Soraka would definitely benefit MORE nowadays with a reverted Q change. Her previous Q was about the same aside of the passive on it, today we know it as "rejuvenation". Restores X amount of health over time with an additional and gradually decaying +10% movement speed. Previously, it restored a mid to large amount of health depending on how many champions hit with her Q, it was not an overtime heal. The problem with this isn't whether it's HoT or an instant "burst" heal. It's the amount of health she retains from it. Soraka is likely to sacrifice way more health and mana with her current Q>W then how much she use to, and Riot's reasoning for this was supposedly assassin's weren't able to BURST her down.. keep in mind this was before the release if Lethality items. Assassin's literally only need duskblade and maybe one more item to one shot a Soraka or anyone that is considered squishy. This is why I feel it would be necessary to revert her Q passive. Not only is she sacrificing an abundant amount of health to her ally, she is losing percentage heal AND a substantial amount of mana each heal. I do think her W change is alright, it's perfectly fine for it to require % health costs or it would be bound for Soraka's just to rush a warmogs and have that continuous healing.. yes they can still do that but it wouldn't be an efficient way of using Soraka's kit. You're more likely to make more of a difference with her natural core items then you would be with just pure health. For example, if you build item 3504 item 3107 item 3190 item 3174, your heal power will be substantially better then if you build item 3065 item 3083 or any other item that provides health over AP/shield - healing power. Basically she sacrifices more health than she can heal by a long shot, her opponents are bound to focus her down since her can heal efficiently, and she is incredibly easy to assassinate due to her being so squishy with no ability. One thing I did forget to mention is her passive, probably the most useless aspect of her kit. Additional movement speed to low health targets.. what they should do is grant her more base movement speed, and give her a new passive.

##What can we do to make her more "modern"?

Like I said, reverting her Q to how it previously was. Maybe lowering the mana cost on her heal early game, and I personally feel gradually decaying armor/MR on her ult would be pretty sweet too. Definitely a better passive because it's.. it ain't good.

This is based on my experience with Soraka playing here from day 1 to now, in 2018. There will certainly be those people who are like, "Oh.. Soraka is so OP".. when she really isn't. It takes an immense amount of game knowledge, good positioning, exceptional timing, and coordination with her team to be considered a good Soraka. I understand everyone's going to have opinions, critics, likes and dislikes on this topic but feel free to drop and say something if you find the the time or thought to do so. I'm planning to regularly renovate this thread.. to make it bigger than Soraka and widen the issues to the Support role as a whole but I just wanted to get a point out there about Soraka. Thanks for taking a read!

##Base of this thread: Too squishy with the modification to her Q passive in comparison to her new one "rejuvenation", sacrifices too much health AND mana, near useless passive, doesn't fit her role or theme that well that her lore portrays, generally outdated aside of her most recent star guardian skin

Epicly Infamous~
