Sick of People Complaining About Mage Vulnerability
RANT INBOUND: The following post is entirely my opinion. Whether you like it or not is not my problem.
You serious? DO YOU KNOW HOW MAN DEFENSIVE OPTIONS MAGES HAVE COMPARED TO ASSASSINS? There are 4 full tier items that give HP and AP, 3 full tier items that give MR and AP, and GOD FORBID YOU BUILD A ZHONYA'S (Iceborn exists, too). Not to mention the access to Grievous Wounds through morellenomicon so if you don't have an assassin with that built in, you're likely about to be face-rolled by a Swain. Sure there's ignite, but then there's zhonya's which can negate almost all of that as well as most of an assassin's burst. Meanwhile, there are 3 full tier items that grant HP and AD, one of which being Frozen Mallet (yeah, have fun building that on an assassin) and another being Trinity Force. The last option is Black Cleaver, which grants a whopping 200 hp. Quite a bit you see. Then there's only 2 items that grant MR and AD, and I'll admit they work decently, but there are 0 items that grant Armor and AD.
The big problem is when people play mages they think they can outplay assassins easily.
That's not how it works.
Assassins are specifically meant to utterly destroy enemy squishies. They are there to counter you. Many mages aren't even built to 1v1 or instantly burst like an assassin they're meant to be heavily artillery hitting the enemy team from the back lines or for catching an enemy out with long range CC. And if you get jumped on, that's what items like Rylai's, Zhonya's, and ROA are supposed to combat. But I guess rushing Rabadon's or a Morellenomicon for quick heavy damage is more important than building intelligently to counter your lane opponent. I mean, I mained Xerath through season 4 and had only as much trouble with assassins as any other mid laner. The first time I lost lane in ranked as Xerath wasn't even to an assassin it was a happy-footed GRAGAS.
The problem is not underpowered mages or overpowered assassins. The problem is how you play, build, and learn.
