Honest question: Why do people make smurf accounts?
I really don't understand. Why not just play on your main account and focus on making it better?

#1 Anyone who isn't Plat+ doesn't have a smurf account, they have an 'alternative' account. #2 It comes in handy for when you want to duo with your friends who are in a much lower tier than you. #3 It's also helpful for when you want to learn champions, you can take a champion you aren't quite familiar with into lets say bronze-silver solo queue and practice that champions mechanics. Often times your unfamiliar play with that champion will equal out to that bronze-silver ELO's actual performance.
I have a smurf to avoid friends when I have my semi-frequent anxiety attacks and I need to just ignore everyone and anything. I can't do that with my 80+ friends spamming me all the time, I don't like being rude and blowing them off but if they added an invisible feature to the game where you can appear invisible to all friends, I'd delete my smurf pretty much.
Because either our mmr got fucked on our main account, we want a fresh start from lvl 1 to 30, or in some cases of toxic players, their main accounts are banned.
I have an alternate account, but wouldn't call it a smurf; i only play on it when I have a friend wanting to try out the game, so I keep it low level so we can PVP without getting matched against 30's.
I'm personally getting a smurf to 30 so I can use champs I'm not comfortable with in a ranked competitive environment till I get skilled enough to use them on my main.
I personally smurf to play with friends who are new to the game and show them the ropes in game without resorting to bots until they're 30 or throwing them against Silver+ players, which isn't much fun to them.
When I do, I usually play around. Off-meta strategies and builds. Unusual champions due to being restricted to only free week champs. I don't try that hard, I goof off and/or try to show my friends the general techniques of playing the game and getting good at the game.
Because their main accounts get banned. Or they're struggling to climb any higher on the ladder. Or they make youtube highlight clips for a living.
I currently have 3 level 30 accounts and 3 more that I am slowly leveling up. Now why would I do said thing? Because I came up with a name I liked and then made an account for it. And yes that is the truth. In fact this account is my 3rd and I made it when they buffed singed a while back in honor of one of my favorite champs that became slightly less bad. However the reason I made my second account was because when I first started playing LOL mid season 4(July) I was completely new to MOBA in general and had no clue what I was doing. My MMR to say the least was horrible and I wanted a fresh start after I had some time playing and hopefully not keep getting matched up with horrible teams. This was actually a success and I climbed from bronze 4 on my first account to silver 1 on my second. I then got my first account out of bronze later on. While Silver is not amazing by any means its fine for me since I barely play ranked to begin with and probably would climb higher if I did play more. But anyways that's why I did it.
