This is basically what PBE is right now.

"Guys, lets do a 5 skin battlecast team!" "Guys, I'm just here to see what this Rengar skin is like." "I just wanna try out Lulu support because I don't have her on my main account." "Wanted to see what would happen if I went AP Ashe, only doing it here so I don't lose on my real account." "Creator Viktor is so cool omfg, I want it on my real account." "Bard(Me), just go jungle. I really wanna see this Thresh skin."

basically all I see are kids playing PBE because there's free stuff on there and they wanna try old shit out. I feel like the only Bard player on there, as I have with the latest new champions and skins. Literally NOBODY on there actually plays there to test shit out, they play just to see what skins and champions are like because they're too poor or lazy to get them on their actual account.

My last game as Bard, I got forced into the jungle because this guy wanted to Support Thresh and try out the Deepsea Thresh or whatever the fuck that skin is. I was then flamed the rest of the game because I couldn't gank because I was a Bard jungle. I'm not gonna lie, once I went back twice before level 4, it wasn't too bad. But the fact that these kids are playing the game to not even test new content and are sitting here flaming me for doing Bard jungle when I pretty much had to to make the game seem normalish... the fuck man lol.

Riot, there needs to be something done about this. There's too many kids on the PBE who just go on there to try the skins and champions they can't play or don't have and ignore the new content. I can't stress it enough, THERE'S NOBODY ACTUALLY TESTING STUFF ON THERE.

Is there anyone else that actually tests stuff on there?

this is why i want to step on a dog when people say pbe patch are being tested by experienced players and expect good changes

Windfallen3/13/2015, 3:50:28 AM21 votes

That's because people are often testing in custom matches

You went into blind pick(I assume) and locked bard. I mean... That's that dude. They still wanna win. Often when I play with peeps on PBE they are much more laid back... generally.

First game I played on PBE with Bard I went top. I got first blood. I then proceeded to carry with my AD build into the mid game... and then I was just walking utility that did more than tickle. However, I found that bards attack animation severely limits him from being a viable ranged ADC.

Anywho, if you truly want to test things out (especially for the first time) then go into custom and actually observe how things work/interact. Make a friend on PBE and test in the same custom game so it's not so tedious :)

Free skins, champs and runes are amazing. Of course there is going to a large group of people that would rather just be messing around on the PBE and playing the game for fun.

Even the older champs/items/skins need to interact with new content to catch bugs, so the mashup of players playing anything and everything for no good reason is still productive.

Well, many players have lost the motivation to give Riot actual feedback, whether it's about bugs or game balance, so...

Quepha3/13/2015, 4:47:28 AM12 votes

riot should just create the PBE as a game mode on the main client. use your same account from the same client, but load up into the game with whatever they want to test unlocked. have people still gain IP per game instead of spending their time testing for no reward. the structure of it right now incentivizes the complete opposite: you get no ip on your main account and it's a pain in the ass to get into and install so people don't do it unless they are doing it for reasons that have nothing to do with testing.

AbyssionKnight3/13/2015, 4:21:36 AM7 votes

If you want to play test and you want like minded individuals, go to the pbe forums. Make a post saying you're looking for people, and create a chatroom. Then people interested in chatting can have that room as a resource. Just type in it 'I want to test champion ability interactions with Bard's Passage. Any volunteers?' and then you'll hopefully get some responses and yeah. I'm sure there probably already are some groups you could join. You just have to be willing to look.

Just going in blind and hoping for people to do what they're supposed to / what you want is never a good idea for almost anything at all.

Sarutobi3/13/2015, 3:02:30 AM4 votes

its one the reasons why i feel Riot shouldnt let people in as much, and if they do they should at least give some sort of requirement to stay active in PBE. its meant for testing, but its pretty obvious most people use it to get free things which is just sad! this is the reason why things take time to fix like bugs and glitches because most of the time they are there in the PBE but since people dont actually discuss it it goes unnoticed unless its something big!

Kikirino3/13/2015, 8:24:39 AM4 votes

I used to test on the PBE and give Riot feedback on the PBE forums. I stopped giving a shit when it became obvious the feedback as a whole (not just mine) was largely ignored. Now I just hop on, play til level 6 with whatever new skin/champ is out and then log off for a month.

"Wanted to see what would happen if I went AP Ashe, only doing it here so I don't lose on my real account." To be fair this kind of play helps people find weird but overpowered things like AD Hiemerdinger back when that was a thing.

Yuki Akuma3/13/2015, 6:39:01 AM2 votes

They could just deactivate having every skin free outside of the new patch's skins, or skins for champions that just had a visual update. That way they can test bugs with said skins and champions. There isn't much of a point in making every skin free on it.

AHeroNamedHawke3/13/2015, 6:24:38 AM2 votes

Welcome to the PBE

It's basically useless beyond hype

Ethri3/13/2015, 6:22:31 AM2 votes

When I was on PBE I wanted to try to test for bugs, but didn't have any friends on there. I think the best way would be to make customs with friends and test out every scenario you think possible.

Chespin20133/13/2015, 6:13:23 AM2 votes

apparently these kids havent heard of the model viewer on lolking

YOU BEEN WARNED3/13/2015, 5:34:25 AM2 votes

If everyone was to test bard then people who don't get to will dodge ( the PBE situation I see every time a new champion is released, the exact opposite of your complaint. )

From your feedback I can conclude that once a champion is released, everyone wants to play him to the extent nobody does ( I'm exaggerating, but the amount of dodgers is too damn high. ) That a lot of the players go and test it on customs instead.

After the new champion rage period, people return to testing skins.

SmokinSickStyle3/13/2015, 8:13:00 PM2 votes

Well what did you expect?

The community just accepted the fact that no matter how much feedback they give, Riot is going always on with their ideas, i don't think they need us to test and fix bugs and the sole purpose PBE had was to test balance changes but we all know how good Rito's balance team is so why bother giving feedback anymore?

PBE's state is a result of Riot's actions.

Vi's Vault breaker bug existed there, still exists here in live after almost 3 years.

Levyathyn3/13/2015, 5:48:25 AM2 votes

Can't we do both, though?

If it helps, I largely test out new things like skins or champions in bot matches. If I need a stage 2 PvP test, or I'm just playing around for bugs and everything, I'll at least try and be decent.

Kowe The Ewok3/14/2015, 2:45:47 AM1 votes

I used to be a tester when the CTE was initially released. However, their utter refusal to listen to any kind of feedback drove me away.

Veigar, Kassadin are just the latest proves for that.

I'm sick of writing pages of well explained feedback just to be ignored. I've been in many Betas and testservers and Riot scores place #2 when it comes to utter disregard of feedback. (Place 1 takes TrionWorlds, it can't get worse than them)

EMOFRATPARTY3/14/2015, 3:50:25 AM1 votes

As someone who has worked on (and still occasionally tests) games, you don't always try to break something when you are playing it in a development environment. Most bugs, issues, errors, etc. will come from playing the game itself. You never know when that one combination of things you do -- say...I don't know, a Jinx and a Caitlyn place a trap in the exact same spot and an enemy steps on both at the same time -- will happen as a result of organic play or legitimate testing.

The PBE seems as if it is intended to be a "proving ground" of sorts for Riot of mutual benefit: players get to see and try new, cool stuff at little or no cost, and Riot gets a ton of feedback.

It really is a win-win, despite any other impression out there. But hey, if you're actively trying to break the PBE, there is nothing wrong with that!

SecretAgentHulk3/14/2015, 4:22:54 PM1 votes

Sounds like maybe already-released unchanged (TU/VU should be tested IMO) skins should just be disallowed on the PBE? Would solve half the issues you bring up anyway.

Duke Anax3/14/2015, 9:19:08 PM1 votes

And then people like me (computer science student with a course in game development), who'd actually know what they'd be doing aren't even allowed on the PBE...

ƒoes3/15/2015, 3:34:48 AM1 votes

Yeah, now it's like,

BARDMAN4000: supp PBEBOSS: supp potatoking94: supp 7777777: supp adcgod: yeah um...i'll go adc PBEBOSS: NO I CALLED SUPPORT locks in as Bard BARDMAN4000: no bard is my main why u lock in potatoking94: i called support clearly potatoking94: duh potatoking94: look potatoking94: BARDMAND4000: suppPBEBOSS: supppotatoking94: supp potatoking94: oh shit 7777777: reported all of u after game adcgod: WHY BARDMAN4000: im dodging now bye

Literally every game. I can't get into a single lobby without anyone arguing over support. Who would have thought?

That's right, I'm looking at you, Draft Mode mains.

But aside from that, maybe a way to make PBE seem more pure and less-filled with kids who want to try out skins or weird things is keep the people who actually report bugs. For example, if you have played 100 PBE games and have not reported a single bug to Riot, kick 'em from PBE. If they've played 100 PBE games and have reported multiple bugs (say, they report 1 bug every 25 games or so), keep 'em because they actually say things rather than take advantage of the privilege and piss around for 35 minutes.

Conturbatio3/13/2015, 2:33:03 PM1 votes

That's a result of their poor application system. I mean, applying to test content/find bugs/give feedback requires a simple mouse click? Come on.... Before I joined LoL, I played on some GTA:SA roleplay servers. To join a simple group, yes a fcking group, you had to write a huge wall of text and have a 20% chance to get accepted. On league? Nah, just press a button.

TCU Dushi3/13/2015, 2:42:50 PM1 votes

I've had a PBE account for ages.

Unfortunatenly the server is hosted in the us. My ping is 200+ so RIOT can test their own sh*t.

Ain't gonna walk around when the game is completely unplayable.

Embertine3/13/2015, 2:45:39 PM1 votes

I wanted to test stuff on it. But my PBE client is f@cked up and wont let me pick a champion in champ select because I have no IP to purchase that champions even though they only cost one IP.

Kairya3/13/2015, 2:46:29 PM1 votes

I actually wanted to test some things on PBE once, when I had an ACC... It lagged. And lagged. and lagged... I don't usually have any ping-problems. It was annoying and I gave up on the idea of doing anything at all there.

AbiwonKenabi3/13/2015, 3:28:05 PM1 votes

When I personally play, I always pull up S@20's "current PBE changes" list and if Bard or whoever I was planning on testing gets taken, I look at that list for something else. Even if I don't end up giving feedback, maybe even someone else can discuss how it was to play against, etc.

Edit: Plus, I don't see why people can't at least test new skins. That's fun content that still needs to be tested.

Yawnli3/13/2015, 4:01:15 PM1 votes

yes this actually pisses me off a lot. if it weren't for them id try the pbe more

CLG Factor3/13/2015, 4:41:44 PM1 votes

I played bard a few times on pbe and hated every second of it

Oleandervine3/13/2015, 5:06:24 PM1 votes

Isn't it a good thing to test older skins too? Wasn't it just recently that Super Galaxy Rumble and some other skin had been running off of older numbers while the other skins had been running on the up to date patches?

HyperZEROXL3/13/2015, 6:30:51 PM1 votes

I'm on the PBE (I'm not a kid) And i see this a LOT! I DO test stuff sometimes when I'm in the mood, but in normals people just want to see skins and mess around. (Guilty, I sometimes mess around, I admit that, but I do test sometimes.) This is the PBE server, you're not there to get free skins and champions then mess around with them like it's your live account. You're there to test out new things Riot's putting in the game.

Maximum Ao Shin3/13/2015, 6:36:03 PM1 votes

clearly the people who haven't been reported because they have only played 120 games are more deserving than the people who have over 2000 games but have gotten some chat restrictions

2pudge1cup3/13/2015, 7:01:53 PM1 votes

This is why you don't play in afternoons right after school gets out.

Your issue has nothing to do with PBE in general, although there are plenty of other issues it has.

FireStirringRuby3/13/2015, 8:01:51 PM1 votes

I wouldn't mind testing things on there. I'm currently "testing" win 10 tech preview. I like testing things out.

Albireo3/13/2015, 9:47:52 PM1 votes

Sometimes (Almost everytime) Old content breaks... old champs crashing games, etc. So, if people is using something that is not new, that's good too.

CooLTanG3/14/2015, 1:14:53 AM1 votes

Its one of the main reasons I left PBE, that and all the player base is bronze level, so pentakill away all day.
