Did I lose because I was bad or because he counterpicked me? or Is Gp not strong?

I just played top Gangplank Gangplank game and got completely trashed on by Pantheon Pantheon I tryed to play as safe as possible, under turret, used all my corrupting and biscuits literally always after few trades (forced trades mostly under turrets) I could chunk 20% of his hp bad with powder kegs but couldn't move up on because he has a shield and a stun. When he all ins me he almost killed me early with ignite and mid to lategame I always got (under turret still mentioning) all inned and died to ignite or miscalculation (more to the all ins than miscalculations) That game ended horribly with me having the worst score you can get in ranked while focusing 0/10 I still don't know how I couldn't think of an outplay and always felt underpowered.

  • After all most of my mastery points are literally on him. (though this is first time playing him after months, is that the reason?) My question is: Is Gp underpowered, was I counterpicked or am I just really trash? (also my jungler wasn't very effective that game :/)

Well Pantheon is an lane bully and early to mid game champ vs Gp who needs trinity and lv 13 to start rolling and start upgrading your ulti. After you reach lv13 you will farm better and farm more silver coins for 2nd ult upgrade and can help push waves or zone enemies. Now if you cant do 2 barrel combo at least then you are rusty on Gp. And Gp can at most delay a game not complety 1vs9 carry. You need team to support or at least contribute to objectives and pushing or pushing their buttons right.

I could definetly hit 90% of my barrel combos on him I can do both 2 and 3 barrel combo... Ye I feel like panth's shield really hit me hard because I wasn't thinking going other runes and ended up with useless klepto against him And on top of that my team was losing too we had afk teammate who came back after his enemy mid got lot of farm and could oneshot me aswell And the game ended before I even hit the level 13 I was level 12 and the game already ended :/

Ah yes usually now gp goes to grasp of the undying to lane bullies cause you proc the heal and max hp increase. And in theory you W his stun and walk out of his E so you take less damage and you heal back up ( i expect panth he is using W-auto-Q-E). And Gp pre 13 is really bad cause his barrel delay to get to 1 bar to make faster barrel combos so the enemies cant react or waste flash. Pre 13 Gp needs his team to at least hold the gates for a while so the GP can come online and deal some damage.

Actually against Panth I don't recommend Grasp, either go Fleet or Klepto because you wont be able to hit a good Panth player without his passive up which blocks Grasp, but not Klepto.

Yes, GP is not nearly as good as he used to be, except when you go brainless Grasp and Q Spam Lane to win (Klepto is love) And also Pantheon is one of his biggest counters, so pretty bad luck, cry for jungler because he will push you under tower 24/7 and roam, once you get a slight lead or atleast TF you can fight him.

Pantheon has always been the hardest lane counter to GP. You have to play it almost perfectly just to get out of lane without hard inting.

His shield blocks your poke, then he gets to poke back for free. He pretty much just gets free damage on you that you can't return, and even if you could his is substantially higher early on than yours due to the way he functions as a champion. Early game Pantheon vs Late game GP, it's a pretty natural counter.

It's likely possible you could have played it better, but you pretty much have to completely forfeit a big chunk of farm early in the game, and it takes a very long time for you to scale because of that.

Pantheon just hard counters all squishies top. Even more so against the likes of AD squishies.

Bad matchup and gangplank is kinda trash tier. He’s stuck in the same situation as ryze where riot won’t let him be good because if he’s good pros abuse the shit out of him.
