With all the ADC and AD items buffs I wonder...

...that I might vaguely recall those times when ADC's late powerspikes meant something because their damage is targeted, ranged and costs nothing, while mages had the privilege of earlier accessible damage because it's skillshots and costs mana.

I'm starting to ask myself if there are any advantages of playing APs anymore.

Well don't look now, but ADC mains will swear up and down that they are weak and in need of more item buffs.

Generally:

More burst More CC Longer range

Have you seen the new Death's Dance? Who even cares about those things anymore... And "more burst" is not true, because AP was significantly lowered across all items and ADCs burst after the Marksman update, too.

Doesn't that depends on the Champion? Over generalizing AP is making it hard to figure how I should take up on this argument of what's better or worse in the game's current meta.

It's a diffenrence for all APs when the was common to reach 1000 AP late game but now 600 is considered ALOT and 400 is average. But (higher mentioned) Cait headshots you 3× in a row before you get out of her trap and you're dead. Then there's Graves, Jhin, Corki...

But hasn't this been the case for literally years now? I feel like that all the changes have done is make some roles more pronounced, but effectively still keep us where we've always been in the end. The only difference is the roles are actually more unique to their intended purpose.

And because it was like this for year it suddenly makes it not bad? I'm reacting to the last AD itemization changes, that are pushing it even further. Now it feels like playing AP cripples you.

I have seen new DD. It requires quite the investment to get. Range is always relevant, its what makes Caitlyn such a monster in lane.

More burst is definitely true. You're telling me that Ashe and Ezreal can match the burst of a Syndra or Viktor?

CC you didn't mention at all, so I'm assuming you're conceding that.

But travel time makes it that most skillshots are easily dodgeable at longer range, plus there are many marksmen with the same AA range as mages' abilities.

Yes, Ezreal and Ashe burst squishies with 3 items, no doubt (of course they need to be a little bit ahead, but mage that isn't ahead also doesn't burst anything). And unless a full build with item 3135 there are very few mages that can burst through item 3156 .

When someone has some of these things: item 3156 item 3814 item 3140 item 3139 item 3812 item 3026 , CC is not an issue, because you just interrupt it or wait until it ends and murder everyone.

Yes, they can be dodged. But throwing them out is often no risk. Viktor for example doesn't take any risk by throwing out an E during a siege. You can't say the same thing for somebody like Lucian or Vayne who has to be in auto range. The difference is safety.

Not nearly as fast. Ashe will not go through a squishy faster than Syndra, I guarantee it.

CC is an issue. Only 2 of those items actually negate CC, and one requires you to predict it first. Waiting until it ends on a squishy is a terrible option, because it often means you're dead. It doesn't matter if you have GA if you got stunned by Elise's Cocoon and are reviving with GA if you're in the middle of the team. Being able to stun people like mages can is a huge deal. Even if they wait it out and live, thats a free 1-3 seconds that the enemy carries were putting out damage that you weren't. 3 seconds in league is a long time.

Does he? It has a CD and is a majority of his damage, if he doesn't have it and enemy team engages on him, he does not burst through lifesteal and shields and is dead before he can use it again.

Although Syndra and Ashe is an extreme comparison, yes, Ashe with three items that crits with three Q AAs and hits you with her ult (just reminding, there are only three/four ADCs without a hard CC or mobility: KogMaw MissFortune Twitch /Jhin is conditional, so there are their weaknesses compared to mages like Karthus that hasn't got either) just bursts you like nothing.

Only 2 of those items actually negate CC, and one requires you to predict it first.

No difference, mages don't have anything like that except new item 3102 , the rest of the items combined with your team just helps you survive everything and then you lifesteal everything back while slaughtering the whole enemy team. Just look at Draven , once you are able to hit your CC when he's running around like Usain Bolt but he has QSS and now he's free, oneshotting you without any counterplay.
