What if enemy cooldowns were visiable in a non-obtrusive way?

I think one of the most frustrating aspects of this game is all the critical information that you don't have access to unless you grind tons of games on many different champions or go to some 3rd party site between every game to update the gaps in your knowledge.

What if when a champion uses an ability, a small red X appears under their healthbar in one of 4 positions in a line: All the way left would correspond to Q, mid left to W, mid right to E and all the way right to R.

This wouldn't change the game in any way but would make it so people with less time to grind can play in an informed and strategic way (playing around cooldowns).

Dumb idea, do your homework and learn to play around cooldowns.

Not an argument.

Yes it is, for many years players have learned their enemies cool down and played around them.

Even pro players do this.

"We've always done it this way therefore it's right." Good logic.

"we should remove skill expression and dumb down the game for people who dont want to learn it"

Your logic

So mindless grinding to internalize all 150+ champion cooldowns is filed under "skill expression" now. Good to know.

Yes, it is lol. Grinding games increases you skill, experience, and game knowledge. Sorry that you feel entitled to be handed something for free that others have dedicated a lot of time to obtain. You might as well buy scripts so you can pull off combos that others have spent time mastering as well lol.

Explain to me how you can learn all 150+ champion's cooldowns through skill and not grinding.

outside of sum cooldowns which are pretty easy to know, especially cause they give how long they are in game, you dont really need to know exact cds. just having an approximation works 95% of the time.

if the cooldown is long enough, unless you 1 shot, they will only use it one time during a skirmish anyway. if you go in 8 seconds after ali uses his combo he will use the combo an equal number of times compared to if you went in when it was up, which would be 1.

if its slightly shorter, then you need to go in as soon as its used anyway otherwise it will be up before you could do any real setup.

really short cds are effectively always up, so having an icon blink all the time doesn't give you any more usable information.

Okay so if I understand you correctly you just don't think it would be useful. Would you be against it if it was implemented as a toggle a player could turn on or off so that you wouldn't have to see it but other players could if they wanted to?

well, like a couple of others have ineloquently said there is a skill factor in being able to play around cooldowns. i actually think it would be an interesting idea to have in bots, to specifically help new players. i would be against adding it in to ranked, an argument could be made for normals, because if a player has the knowledge of cooldowns and someone else doesn't that skill would be taken away by adding this in.

however i cant say riot would never add something like this because they did add buff timers.

I wouldn't mind it as a normal-only option players could toggle on and off. Honestly they should make buff timers that way as well.

This game doesn't balances around casuals, so no. Learn the cooldown in your free time.

Okay sell me on it. What about the grind to memorize all 150+ champion cooldowns do you think adds to the game?

If you're one committed League player, who even has the commitment to find & squeeze the amount of time you want to play League between work/school hours, you should be devoted to learn on every champions through either reading or playing them yourself. Even if you can't remember the exact cooldown numbers, you should have the experience to estimate how many seconds the enemy didn't used that one ability you were keeping watch on.
