its because half of his kit depends on him being low hp, while the other half of his kit expends his HP.

with keystones(looking at you TLD), just about everyone's got enough burst to take an aatrox who's foolish enough to have half of his hp missing.

this forces aatrox to either build tank or get faceraped. and even when he builds tank, he's getting faceraped for the most part because he can't do any damage at all to even win a fight.

aatrox is just an extremely outdated kit that doesn't fit with riot's current garbage ideas of "EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE DIES IN ONE ROTATION HUE $$$$$$$$ICK PLAY$$$$"

Honestly at one point Aatrox was absurdly broken, granted this was near his release date. His kit design just doesn't really work, lifesteal until you can't auto fast enough. Plus with all the nerfs that he had it completely butchered his kit and play-style.

It a real shame I thought the character was fun/strong at one point and he had a little revival when feral flare was added, but with no items that really work for him and his built-in lifesteal practically not existing makes him not even worth playing.

Aatrox isn't weak honestly. Build two damage items (Botrk and deaths dance/maw/Hydra) then devote the rest of your build to tanking. Run either bloodlust or fervor for your keystone and you're good to go. With two life steal items and full tank you can practically leave blood price toggled on. Tons of damage and tankiness :))))
