Autofill's annoying

This will be a whiny dramatic mess, but let’s go. I almost never get to play the role I want, and very rarely do I get my secondary. I get that it’s good for me to try all the roles to get a grasp of them, but some days you just want the one you enjoy the most and have been putting the most time and effort into through guides. I wouldn’t be complaining if this was a once a day occurrence and it wasn't the same two roles over and over, jg and supp. Ever since I started playing normals a month or two ago, I got the role I'm interested in no more than maybe five times. It always feels like a miracle, I get excited, lock in my favorite champion, then somebody dodges because autofill or flame and in the next one I’m back to autofilling jg. Frustrated at that point, I do the dodging and log off. There must be people out there who want these roles and I'm willing to wait for them; wouldn’t mind longer queue times if it meant I wouldn’t be getting autofilled constantly.

Is this normal? How do people even have experience with anything other than supporting and jungling?

If you are filled one match, you receive auto fill protection.

Whenever you are in promos, you receive auto fill protection for your promos.

You cannot possibly be filled 100% of the time.

I'm rarely ever filled and I main top. When I am filled, I announce it in lobby and am often offered a different role. So, even when I am filled, I generally am allowed to play my desired role. Though it does not always happen.

So , again, the scenario you described is entirely impossible.

If it works the same way in normals (I'm too low for ranked), then I guess it might be how rarely I play. Usually two games a day with a good few hours long break in between. As I said, I do manage to get my secondary here and there (but it really doesn't feel like I get it as often as I get autofilled), but primary? Literally never.

The roles are more equally played in ranked than in normal. I've done about thirty-five ranked champion selects this season. I got top literally every single time (some were in promos, but the majority weren't). But when I go over to normal, I get top maybe 33% of the time as a max during good hours. It's typically closer to maybe 20%. It's not uncommon for me to go ten champion selects without getting top. It's a horrible system, but Riot is adamant about keeping it.
