Why one would take static shiv over phantom dancer on a adc?

it offers roughly the same attack speed bonus, a slightly less crit chance, up to 250 additional magic damage that can travel through multiple targets and can proc quickly

it also offers mixed damage type potential so the enemy itemizing against you has less of an impact

the extra burst you get from a shiv proc. plus if you crit a shiv proc the extra damage is quite ridiculous.

Basically only for burst, or if you're a melee ADC.

what would be goo to use on cait?

oh, in addition to my other post, it builds from Avarice Blade, so you gain gold more quickly

honestly, the only reason that other attack speed/crit/move speed item is built is if you want to move through minions

There's a video on Phylol's channel on youtube explaining this (I'll try to find the link later) but the basics of it is: Statik Shiv is good if you're falling behind. It makes for good burst and helps a lot during team fighting as well as clearing waves. Also, it's just much easier to build than Phantom. It would be better to have a completed Statikk Shiv rather than a half built Phantom Dancer. Obviously when you're full build and have enough extra gold, you can trade out statikk for phantom. If you're ahead, you can build a phantom dancer, as it helps you chase down enemies, which you can easily kill. //edit: [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfg0z1y1h4c ] Here's the video
