Theory Crafting: Effects of mobility on the Meta
Just theory crafting on the effect mobility has on the Meta.
The main effect mobility has is how (relatively) safer these champions are. They can get into a fight, put out some damage, and then get back out before a lot of counter attack happens.
The way to deal with this is either CC them to negate their mobility or burst them. With the CC focus, the idea is that they are squishy to the point where if they get caught out, you can put enough damage on them to kill them. One of the difficulty with CC path is they can still get out once the CC wears off, so unless you have more CC to keep them there until they die, you need to have enough damage to kill them.
This brings us to the burst path. If you have enough burst, you don’t really need CC because they are dead before they can get away. This also transitions into the fact that burst helps in all situations. You can burst, and force them to retreat. You can burst then kite. You just need to avoid being CC’s or taking more burst than you are dealing.
The best way to counteract CC and burst is to become tanky. You survive the initial burst, long enough to get your CC off, or get some measure of sustained damage out. You can still get burst down, due to all of the penetration that is available, and you are still susceptible to CC yourself. So your goal then is to do as much damage as possible, and get out, or to protect your own bursty champions so they can kill fast enough to win the fight.
This unfortunately leaves sustained, non-burst champions significantly weaker. Most do not have the mobility to survive CC or taking burst damage from the opponents. They often times are not able to contribute as much to the fight from either being killed by a burst, or the fight just is just not prolonged enough for the damage to stack up.
