Uhhhh Riot? Jungle items?

So is no one going to bring up the fact that Ranger's Trailblazer (item 3713) has been removed on preseason?

Game could possibly end while Rammus is working on his first clear

Raoul4 votes

Dude, I laughed hard at this one^^

Poor Rammus, he deserves some love

Hm. My guess is that they want to limit the champion pool in the jungle. Removing Trailblazer kicks the weakest junglers out of the role.

ModWulf Helhammer14 votes

No, it removes junglers that had hard early clears...such as tanks.

Aye, the weakest junglers - those with poor clear and often poor sustain or mana issues... such as (certain) tanks. By weakest, I mean those that struggle most in the jungle. This change will kick some struggling junglers out of the role. I am not saying that I like the change, I am just speculating what the reasoning might be. I kind of like Taric jungle once in a while for fun, so this hurts me too.

I mean, they are adding that swirly dragon thing that gives mana regen in the jungle and a dot passive but even then, loosing ranger's is kinda annoying.

Some of those junglers have no other role.

I feel like the only one who will truly suffer is Rammus.

Maybe Nidalee, I don't play her, wouldn't know.

I never really bought it on anyone else. Sometimes I would buy it on Warwick, but I'd normally stick with Blue or Red. For Sejuani I'd always get Blue.

Can't think of anyone else.

Jungle Lux God1 votes

And they'll just buy Hunter's Potion and be fine.

5 health potions, plus one refill every time you kill a neutral monster, only for 400 gold? Yes please.

ModWulf Helhammer1 votes

The problem isn't the sustain; a lot of junglers took Trailblazer because they had a poor clear

WookieJesuz5 votes

idk why they did this.

LankPants5 votes

It's Riots way of telling you to stop playing junglers other than Lee Sin.

Teridax685 votes

Riot's redone starting jungler itemization and split Hunter's Machete into two components, one that gives AD/on-hit junglers better clearing (but mediocre sustain), and another that gives sustain-dependent junglers excellent mana and health regen from the get-go (you get 150% mana regeneration in the jungle and 20 health regen while in combat with monsters, which means even Fiddlesticks gets to put this to good use). On top of this, there's a new Crystalline Flask replacement called Hunter's Potion that holds 5 charges, each restoring 60 health and 35 mana over 8 seconds, and gains a charge every time you kill a large monster (if the item has full charges, you instead gain the regen for free). All of this makes Ranger's Trailblazer pretty redundant, so it got removed.

ModWulf Helhammer1 votes

Trailblazer wasn't just picked for its sustain, it was also picked on junglers that have a weak clear. I know all the jungle changes, and I know that sustain is going up, but that still doesn't fix the other problem that Trailblazer fulfilled

Teridax683 votes

Jungle monsters are also getting their toughness (and damage) reduced across the board, so those junglers should have an easier time early before their innate damage or tankiness kicks in. The only real loss from the removal of Trailblazer is the mid-combat clutch heal/mana restore it can provide.

GundayMonday1 votes

That would make sense then. I'll believe it when I see it live though.

Jungle Lux God4 votes

Probably to make room for Hunter's Potion, which helps weaker junglers just like Trailblazer did.

Trailblazer + Potion might create abusive amounts of sustain in the early game, and might push out most early game junglers into unplayability unless they could guarantee kills off of every gank they did and could gank non-stop in the early game or they could guarantee kills off of weak early game junglers that are perpetually at 100% health. Alternatively, the combination could push out sustain-oriented junglers entirely unless not getting Hunter's Potion and getting a combat Smite are such a big deal that it warps the game more to sustain junglers than other junglers.

If Ranger's Trailblazer is designed to help struggling early game junglers then it might not do the trick anymore, at least that far in the early game. Jungle mid-tier items (Stalker's, Skirmisher's, and the new item Tracker's Knife) cost 1050 gold now, and you would need 700 gold after your first clear to get your jungle item, which would come a lot later than Ranger's Trailblazer would be needed. By comparison, Hunter's Potion only costs 400 gold, which is more than affordable as an item on your first back, especially if you start with your jungle item and the new item Refillable Potion (which costs 150 gold and combines into Hunter's Potion for 250 gold), and will likely help weaker junglers just like Trailblazer does without forcing them into a single smite the way Trailblazer did.

I thought I wouldn't find anyone realizing that Ranger's Trailblazer just negates an actual smite upgrade for champions that need it, and they've made up for the loss of Trailblazer's sustain.

tommyagun3 votes

My guess is that people gank too often when they use trailblazer. It stuns all the monsters, takes half their health and gives back x amount of health and mana which can allow a champ to be at full health and mana at the end of a clear which gives them the power to gank if needed. They could just nerf the item instead of getting rid of it. Also why not get rid of poacher because who really uses it in the first place, maybe if it gave more gold then yes it could be worth but not really. Bye my trusted weapon item 3713

ModWulf Helhammer3 votes

They've reworked Poacher's Knife into Tracker's Knife, which now can place two stealth wards.

If they wanted to gank alot why not just get a item 3706 since it makes your ganking potential much more potent.

No bec the trailblazer allows early ganks and as I stated before allowed you to gank with full health and mana. Yes you could use stalker but you wouldn't have as much health and mana early game as with a trailblazer.

flibitydoo2 votes

it's been turned into this

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XLfCbUf4S6I/VjKg4yGuM9I/AAAAAAAAzak/00DjzXBfel8/s1600/34242342.jpg

which doesn't give a smite bonus, but does grant a bunch of regen when jungling (think spirit stone/season 4 machete) It also acts as a mini-sightstone (with 2 charges)

Really the only jungle item removed is Poacher's Knife which no-one bought competitively anyways.

darkchan51 votes

so the theory behind ranger's trailblaizer was that it helped champs that had mana/health sustain clear better.

now what ended up happening was that champs that already cleared well would take for even better clear. e.g. lee sin, an early game ganking jungler with pretty good sustain, you would expect a stalkers blade on something like that, but since trailblazer gives better clear speed, he just builds that. trailblazer on live is pretty much the best upgrade in every situation on every champion(even after the nerfs), which is not a good thing to have in a game

KaisadiIIa1 votes

Not really. The blue one that slows is really powerful for champions that can use it. Especially Lee Sin: Dash to ward and smite a champion for a free Q land.

darkchan51 votes

its not good on lee, he already has a slow, and increasing clear speed/healthiness is just better

Slamurai Jack1 votes

The new jungle just seems much easier in general. The new Machete is OP and the other jungle item is also really strong.

Auroramancer1 votes

Dont forget what else they added though.

There's going to be a specific Flask for jungler's that refills in spawn, but also gives you a charge when you kill a big monster. If you're already full, it automatically activates the charge for you.

ChaosThief1 votes

Basically: item 3713 item 3711 gone

A new one that is basically a mini sightstone

And you have two options to start off, as well as a potion that refills on killing monsters (start 3 normal health potions and not the refillable by the way, if your champion is not great at sustain), and a new mastery set that makes jungling easier (up to 200% health regen at 20%- hp for tanks, for example.)

Silents4291 votes

It's worthless with the new starting items.

ltmetal1 votes

Jungle difficulty overall is going down (reduced health and range for big monsters, armor removed from small monsters, reduced damage, more patience for ranged kiters). Also, any champion who COULD NOT SURVIVE without Trailblazer due to sustain issues (a very small pool) gets a whole host of refillable potion options. Thirdly, mana hungry junglers who needed the extra mana getting through their first and second clear (like Evelynn and Fiddlesticks) can now buy the Hunter's Talisman item for 150% base mana regen.

Trailblazer being removed only looks like the Jungocalypse before taking into account these factors.

thank you!
