Should Supports Leave A Slot Open For Control Wards?

I'm in silver elo so no one else ever wards. When late game rolls around and I can afford one last item, should I buy it instead of keeping a spot open for control wards?

I wouldn't leave an entire slot open for just control wards. That one ward can't possibly have the same strength as an entire item.

Generally, it's better to buy the last item and just use your Oracles Trinket (since it'll have a very low CD by late game).

If it's super late game and you really need a control ward for that game-ending baron or elder, or to defend your base from a TP backdoor, you can sell one of your items to get a control ward and set one down (assuming you have the gold to buy your item back again).

I'm not too concerned about the sweeping aspect of the ward as I am about the vision aspect of it. Especially when other teammates get oracles or farsights over warding trinkets, the entire jungle is pitch black except for the 3 wards from the Sightstone. During teamfights if I put down wards around the dark where the enemies could be (dragon/baron brush) and they sweep my wards, we'll be left with absolutely no vision. At that point, should I go back to base or stick around with no vision?

You should encourage your teammates to use their item 3340 item 3363 and if your jungler doesn't really need Red/Blue smite maybe encourage them to get item 3711 .

You can only ward so much on your own. You can get a sense where the enemy is by warding strategically; you don't need everything warded. You can also provide vision with your abilities (nearly every support has a spell which can relatively safely face check a bush).

I main Janna and her Q doesn't reveal anything.. The only way to see an enemy is with sweeper (which is too late by the time we see them since they can one shot her) or to get Frostqueen's which I don't prefer over Talisman in many games. If they still don't switch after I try to get them to, should I keep an open slot or still go for the last item?

In general your sightstone should be enough. It's better to have full build late game so you can help in fights. Just make sure to tell your team to play around where you have vision (aka place vision where they want to play)

Wish it were that easy but brain-dead teammates always go into the dark areas or I die trying to ward... which is why I need more vision if I want my team to win, but wards are so damn expensive if it costs a whole item. The dilemma is real

LOL, no.

First of all, I come from the school of anti-meta that says "If the Support is getting a item 2045 then they should be getting a item 3363 " since the 20% item cdr also affects the wards, therefore, we'll have more blue (permanent) wards. The jungle should take sweeper.

But as to the large issue here - supports are already cash/exp starved. Denying them yet another item is stupid.

Good point. Most of the junglers that I play with get sweepers anyway. How about in the situation that the enemy team has someone with a stealth? Should I still get the farsight?

Not unless you're dumpstering the stealth champ. I mean, most builds apply to 90% of the situations you face. But the thing about stealth champs is, if you can remove their stealth, you basically nerfed the hell out of them.

What I've come to learn in my time of playing is this - exploit every advantage. Is it cheesy? yes. is it moral to abuse OP champs? no. Does anyone care how you got your rank when they ask you? No.

Do what it takes to climb. And exploit everyone's stupidity. This isn't the real world, you're not actually harming anyone.
