Unfinished - Kindred's only partly solved as a jungler. It scares me what Riot might do.
Kindred lacks the essential characteristics of a jungler.
What used to be a feature has become a considerable barrier and liability in a bad match up. Enemy players no longer fear the Mark, they use it against Kindred, knowing where Kindred will likely be, and adding 50% more work for the Eternal Hunters.
Rather than having to decide which objective or what lane to apply pressure, Kindred players must now also gather hunts *in order to function effectively as a backline adc.*
They have no hard CC of their own nor an ability to kite very easily in the tight quarters of the jungle (compared to a lane) against the standard jungler formula of other junglers.
Just like catching a lone Bot Lane ADC wandering alone - Kindred is more Prey than Hunter. They're Marksmen, and left inherently fragile, unable to go toe to toe should a melee jungler catch them just as they would if they caught Kog'Maw.
As a rule, Junglers have to provide hard CC to be fully effective in their role. Kha can slow and leap onto targets, Noct can gank from very long ways away, Shaco can paralyze with traps, Rammus has a taunt, Ivern has a snare - the list goes on.
Kindred was left WITHOUT a hard CC because they're meant to kill champions. Unfortunately back in their original version, this was a nightmare success.
So Kindred is an ADC deliberately intended to roam the jungle, alone, without a hard defense.
Kindred has a *THEORETICAL* defense in their new design, range, but its not at all a guaranteed one, and it does *nothing* to solve the problem of being no different than any other ADC caught alone.
A lot of champions have range to help them kite, but kiting is best in the river and in the lanes - not the tight spaces of the jungle where, Kindred has very select areas they can vault over if they want to keep engaging OR at least, moving around effectively.
No one wants a gank from their Bot Lane ADC because it means that bot laner needs protection themselves - but Kindred doesn't play with a support.
So Kindred needs a defense mechanism that fits their role as Jungler and allows them to go toe to toe with other junglers when in tight spaces - or at least, have a great chance of escaping them the way Talon, Shaco, or others squishy Junglers might.
What if Kindred's E also had a "Fear Stun" - like Fiddlestick's ability. It would allow Kindred as a jungler to prevent a teammate's death during a rescue gank, and allow Kindred' Q to take effect.
What if Kindred's passive also gave a small boost to mobility, OR one of their abilities gave a temporary movement boost? What if Kindred could more easily jump back and forth over more areas of terrain, engaging enemy champions while also briefly escaping, only to fight again with their q back and forth? Junglers in team fights target the enemy's back line unless they're tanky junglers - but Kindred as a Marksman, can't do that without being suicide, and in a bad match up, can't get the range they need from their passive to help their team.
I'm scared of Kindred being left in their current state, and I'm just as scared of what Riot's Designers may do once they realize and accept and enact adding what Kindred needs to fully complete their kit as JUNGLER.
Because Kindred has left one of the largest OMG WHAT DID WE UNLEASH?? moments imprinted on Riot's reveals and communications with our community that I can remember since season 3. I'm scared Riot still thinks Kindred will be as bad as they were before - or close to it.
Because right now, Kindred, especially in a bad match up - is in a feast or famine state, and is HEAVILY reliant on their items AND their passive to function.
And even then, by design, they still need someone to protect them, like a support, in order to show what they can really do.
For a jungler, that can't work.
