Riot, Thank You for the Darius Changes
Seriously. Anyone who disagrees probably hasn't played
on the PBE, hasn't updated their itemization, likes game-altering bugs, or values lore over gameplay.
New Q feels great. With the brief movement stop during Q's use removed, it is easier to stick with enemies (especially if you have
) . The heal adds to Darius' lane bullying potential, and is fantastic in teamfights. The changes to the inner portion of Decimate make sense. Hitting someone with the blunt hilt should deal significantly less damage than a sharp axe, and it certainly wouldn't cause them to bleed externally.
W is now very, very strong at rank 1. The slow duration nerf to one second is completely and utterly negligible because E now slows enemies by 90% for one second. With a typical E + W combo, you have a 90% slow for two seconds up from 20%.
The bugfix on E was LONG overdue. Yes, a good chunk of power was removed from Darius' kit. However, it wasn't supposed to be there in the first place.
Titanic Hydra is awesome on Darius. The active is an auto attack reset, so Q + E + AA + W + AA + Hydra active will proc bloodrage. The active ability also hits like a truck.
Yes, Darius' damage has been reduced in the early game. However, it has been significantly increased late game and breaks even around level 13 (based on the parameters below, new
's combo is more powerful from levels 9-12 due to W's change). Let's do a damage calculation.
Pre-rework Darius will have completed
and
. Post-rework Darius will have completed
and
. Both will be level 13 with 5 points in Q and W and recieve 15 AD from runes and masteries. The combo will be Q (hitting the outer edge) + E + AA + W + AA + Hydra active.
Pre-rework Darius has 224 AD and around 2001 HP. His combo will deal about 1515 damage before resistances. Darius can ult for 626 true damage, bringing his total to 2,140 damage before resistances.
Post-rework Darius has 199 AD and around 2251 HP. His combo will deal about 1427 damage before resistances. Darius can ult for 790 true damage, bringing his total to 2216 damage before resistances.
My build during my PBE games was
. I had 4.7k hp and around 100 armor, 160 MR, and 300 AD. The combo above at level 18 would deal a whopping 2231 damage before resistances and my ult would deal an absurd 1258 true damage.
Late game I was unstoppable. With 50 hp regen per second and Q's heal, I was very hard to kill. With frozen mallet, activating bloodrage was virtually guaranteed. When I was out of combat, I regenerated 218 hp per second. I got two 1v3 triple kills. In my opinion, new Darius certainly lives up to the name "juggernaut".
TL;DR: To Riot and whoever is in charge of this rework, thank you very much for making Darius extremely fun to play.
