Garen suggestion

1: Add a small dash when close to the enemy you about to Q ( Think of Udyr bearstance for reference) . Garen Q got nerfed in movement speed/duration and silence duration . Since kiting is the way to win over Garen, i think a small dash attached to it would be fair since he still is in melee range.

2: Remove Judgement isolation damage and buff his base damage or ratio instead. Garen judgement is often used as farming tool but it end up feeling weak late game specially on super minions. Also no one use judgement to do solo damage. Its an AoE and feel counter intuitive.

3: Add an indicator if Garen crit or remove the whole crit addition to buff his base damage instead of number of spins. Garen is made to be the though guys, building critical strike isnt in his plan and it take alot of power budget in Garen kit .

4: After successfully executing his target, Garen should feel succesful and proud of himself. A Bonus of either one of the above would be a great addition since he will end with nothing to fight back for a bit: -A buff to his Armor and Magic resist for a short time -Bonus health for a short time or permanent health add on successful execute. It would glory the demacia great justice and reward good execution.

  • Since Garen only have out of combat sustain; a increase of health regeneration for a short anount of time would incitate to stay in combat for a bit more and to be able to retreat in safety.
  • Since Garen rely on mobility and preseason coming close, Garen could gain a movement speed boost after successfully executing a target or the villain. Think like ~20% for normal target up to ~40% if it's the villain or
  • Give a small boost of movement to Garen and his allies if they walk toward enemies.

Thanks for reading up, i love Garen thematically and character wise but i feel he lack of something. Feel free to rate and leave comments below. Im willing to answer all your questions, Have a great day on the rift ! [garen-swing]

P.S: I'm not asking to add this list, i'm giving suggestion to make Garen players feel great of their decision and feel impactful when they play it well.

garen actually has a 50 unit micro dash on his q just like udyrs bear stance.

they added it when they increased his base attack range from 125 to 175 with the juggernaut rework. the reason is, that the increased attack range doesnt take him 50 units further away from his opponent to follow a q with a spin, but he can make the same distance to his target as before.

riot stated that the crit scaling on his q and spin doesnt factor into his power budget right now. before they remove it, id rather see them build up on it. its one of the few things that is entirely unique to him as a juggernaut. it would actually be cool if he had other sources of crit available and infinity edge would be his major damage item as oposed to triforce like for many other juggs.

doing something like item 3031 item 3071 item 3053 item 3742 item 3065 item 1001 and still gaining around 40% to 50% crit would be the dream. maybe one day, when riot adds crit runes to the new system. meddler mentioned that a rune that unlocks crit at 10 minutes would be a possibility.

the main thing they need to focus on before anything else is improvements to his villain mechanic to place it more reliably on the largest carry threat on the enemy team, instead of that support who just happened to lasthit one of your teammates by accident.

yeah, I don't like garen at all but I wouldn't object to an illaoi style jump on his q. I can't tell you the amount of times I've played him on aram and been stuck just running behind someone who somehow has SLIGHTLY more movement speed than I do.

Yeah usually using his ult is more of a why not thing rather than a you need to thing. Usually if you can kill them with ult you can kill them with Q and E.

Also for the crit on E thing. It doesn't eat into his power budget at all. It's just there for shits and giggles. Since it doesn't add any direct power to a non-crit Garen, straight buffing non-crit in compensation for the removal of crit wouldn't make much sense if that makes sense.

Also his Q does dash. It's not huge but it's there. Think it's like Nasus Q range increase, about 50 units or something.

since were talking about "trolly" items on garen.

item 3078 has actually become a better item on garen in a lot of scenarios than item 3071 for multiple reasons.

first of all, the addition of the armor shred buff to garens spin, which made him less reliant on cleavers passive to overcome enemy resistances. they also nerfed cleavers armor shred a couple of month back, and it stacks poorly with garens own armor shred anyways, due to the multiplicative stacking. the item didnt become as important for its passive anymore, unless youre facing very tanky teamcomps in which case cleaver is still preferable.

the main reason youre buying cleaver these days is for its stat combination. guess which item has the exact same combination and some other beneficial stats and a better passive on top of it? the only wasted stat on triforce for garen is mana. however this is offset by multiple benefits.

garen has incredibly high base ad. one of the highest values in the game, which is further amplified by item 3053 buff. it makes his sheen procs hit like a truck and creates massive burst in combination with his q. against a squishy a decisive strike empowered by triforce can take up to 60% of his health which brings him almost in ult range on its own. its a similar damage amp as getting an i.e. crit on your q but 100% of the time.

it makes him chunk out turrets like nasus with his q, which makes him really good at split pushing.

it makes him more mobile than cleaver, given that the item itself still grants the rage passive and another movement speed bonus on top of it.

even the attack speed isnt entirely wasted, since garen is still auto attacking 50% of the time when his spin is on cooldown. it helps him weave auto attacks between abilities, and his villainy passive grants him 1% max health true damage on autos against villains aswell. so attacking more often means more true damage during the period the spin is on cooldown.

i think garen right now might be one of the most versatile champions in the game when it comes to his itemization choices and build pathes. there is so much shit you can do with him that just works.

there are two people who made it to masters by 1 tricking garen this season. one on na who built damage garen, and one in korea who did it with tanky garen.

imo hes almost there to finally be a good champion even at higher ratings. all they need to do is keep tweaking his kit to increase his skillcap a slight bit more.
