[Runes Reforged]: New Rune Changes 3/8/18

Found on PBE 3/8/18, we have a new Rune being added to the 3rd Row of the Resolve Tree. However 2 Runes have been removed from the tree completely. [The Following changes are tentative & are subject to change]

New Rune! - Chrysalis: "Start the game with an extra 60 health. At 4 takedowns, consume that health to gain an adaptive bonus of 9 Attack Damage or 15 Ability Power." https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9_amCM-GbW8/WqG3xAuUloI/AAAAAAAA67o/hitq49PuCFEwnEYcu4jAyqLcFRIxkut0wCLcBGAs/s1600/chrys.jpg

Runes Removed :(

  • Mirror Shell: Gain +6 Magic Resist, Heals including Consumables will temporarily increase your Magic Resist by 5%
  • Iron Skin: Gain +5 Armor, Heals including Consumables will temporarily increase your Armor by 5%.

Personally, I don't like the fact that Iron Skin/Mirror Shell are being removed since they come in handy if I need defensive stats for a lane that I know is going to give me a hard time before 10 minutes.

I also feel like the Chrysalis rune is going to feel quite niche & not something I'd use over the other two options in Tier 3, the other two runes being Second Wind & Conditioning.

Your thoughts guys?

I like this rune but it doenst seem to fit the resolve tree

Probably because it's a rune for bruisers but there's no tree for bruisers. Marksmen get their own tree but RIP bruisers.

60 Health is better then 5 Armor and 5 MR.

You can take it into any matchup now

And takedowns include assists, which makes the secondary effecy easily achievable. Also, most of the people who use the two current ones the most are bruisers and melees that have low armor/mr at lv 1 Yasuo Camille Riven, therefore they can use the AD/AP well.

No MU you should ever take this shit over second wind on literally any champ.

Honestly I’d prefer second wind or conditioning over 60 health that barely turns into any damage later.

I'm not a fan of adding even more damage into a tree that's primarily meant to be defensive.

Ok sure but why4 votes

I remember the MINUTE the new runes came out, I made posts saying "Wow Mirror Shell and Iron Skin are actually useless" which all got hella downvoted

Funny to see Riot listening to the complaints instead of the sheep for a change

The problem is when they got into the same row as Second wind, which just fills the same niche while being outright better and indifferent between AD/AP

I'm rarely against new runes, but this one seems kinda bland.

They should still keep the old ones even if they add it.

I like it tbh.

Personally think this is a terrible idea since mirror shell/iron skin do help more in laning phase then outside of laning. They could've added the 5% effect to permanently happen after 10mins but eh, guess they have other ideas. They might have a bit of balancing issues now when it comes to champions that have a stronger all in potential at lvl 1-2 like Tryndamere as iron skin + pot made it to where you don't take 150 damage crit lvl 1.

This is a terrible idea. Riots taking the power away from players to slot in their champions weaknesses.

Chrysalis sucks donkey ass. it doesn't scale is weak as fuck. i'd rather see it granting 9-27AD or 15-45AP based on Lv.

As a support player, are assists counted as takedowns? I think they are, but that's important to know before I weigh in.

**Even assuming so, 60 health is not very much, I'd almost always default to the +8 Armor / MR after 10 minutes. That seems infinitely better. **

Yes, Kills and Assists are "Takedowns".

and now i'm wondering when are they going to do something to the tank support item to open it up to bruiser supports like remove the heal to it and replace it with a damage increase based on how much hp was on the execution [slayer-jinx-unamused]

A 60 hp buff with pitiful amounts of dmg later on vs second wind which heals exponentially more than 60 hp in lane.

Think I am going to stick with the second wind for surviving lane.

That 60 hp in a situation I would be bursted down from full health generally wouldn't help out as I am most likely still dead after being caught out.
