4.20, Solo Queue, Riot

This seems to be a big issue in my mind. Pre 4.20 as a support player I would play a solid game at times, win the lane, never die, feed my adc etc. Now that 4.20 as taken effect I find even as a support no matter what I do, my game is based on others rather then my own performance.

My direct opinion is that this patch ruins Solo. I can see how it may benefit higher level play and E-Sports, but as a paying customer in Silver I am completely stumped. It doesn't matter what I really do in games anymore, it seems to be completely random what I win and don't win.

In the game prior to the new patch if I played a solid game, fed my adc, warded, I would be benefited most of the time I good solid win. At this point in league I've had games where I fed bottom lane basically, and still won just because our team was better oriented.

But to have a good team it's not really about communication, it's about complete randomness. We all know the toxic part of the game but realistically the solo queue is throwing you in with practically anyone, team based or off doing there own thing. This new patch is all about a team working together there is no doubt about that, you guys are trying to make a more team based game. But, at a cost. Solo Queue is the worst it's even been in my mind, even though I only played season 4.

But I play this game daily, it use to be that competitive fun moba where your efforts we're seen in games. I've literally went 0/0/15 as support leaving bottom lane with the whole map constantly warded but yet we lose due to lack of team coordination. There is a voice chat option third party, but no one does that. You type to help them and it actually ends up being a fight.

There is no solo queue anymore in my eyes, the days of carrying as any role and trying hard are done. You basically get what you get. It's gambling if anything. Maybe it's different in other tiers, but silver is a pure gamble. Not a fun way to spend 40 minutes of your life if it's depended upon who you choose to match me with.

I've seen a variant of the "supports can't carry anymore" complaint every season since 2.

So far, every time it has turned out to be more about supports no longer knowing how to carry the game. Support is a subtle role, and it takes time to adjust things like build orders and ward placements to the new stuff. Laning is also very different with the decreased jungle pressure.

For example, I'm finding splitpush Janna to be super strong with the new baron buff. That's something that didn't make a lick of sense in season 4 and it changes how you approach the midgame.

The game changes more for supports in these preseason events than it does for the laners. I'm pretty sure you just need to unlearn what you have learned, and new ways of carrying will become apparent.

http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/UFAg1MP7-question-to-dedicated-support-players-supports-be-here

Here's why I think supports are less impactful in 4.20

  1. Dragon no longer gives support a small but even gold income, since they are bound to have less ap, less ad, and push and farm less. The dragon buffs rewards laners more than supports.

  2. Jungler items made ganking more effective giving a strong slow , or a strong damage, to junglers who prior to 4.20 had to plan and strategize with their laners how to use their cc to get a kill or back from their ganks.

3)Support utility has been dispersed by items like Righteous glory, that works exactly like Talisman except it doesn't grant movespeed when fleeing from enemies.

http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/NG7XFHIs-sightstone-enchantments-proposal-for-season-5 How to help supports a bit? Make some support enchantments for the sightstone, not necessary stats, but utility for their role and for what they are supposed to do, since the 4.20 hit their utility hard.

As a dedicated support main, I've been feeling the complete opposite. Maybe you're just playing support wrong? Focus more on "guiding" your team such as, "Baron now" and such and also being more selfish and ksing from time to time and if you're doing well enough, don't be afraid to build a little damage (if your team complains about ksing then ignore them, you're going to carry their ass whether they like it or not). Also, it would be nice if you listed what changes in 4.20 caused this, right now you're just saying there's not enough communication which is 1. Not really Rito's fault, and 2. has been going on before 4.20.
