Help with Team Comps?

I apologize in advance if I'm posting in the wrong place, this is my first time here. I just had a question for anyone who is good at this game or knows what they're doing (I am neither), what are the mid laners that sync with which team comps? I'm a mid lane main and although I've been silver my entire time playing this game (and haven't ever really been serious about playing ranked or getting better), this is the season where I want to climb. I feel like I'm fairly consistent in my ranked games on my mains - Azir, LB, Zed, Viktor, and Riven. My question is, more specifically, to the mid laners, how do you guys decide what champion to pick? Do you base it more on your teammates or enemies' picks? And for mains in other positions, what champions do you guys like to have or feel more comfortable with having on your team? At this point my process is to literally instalock Azir if their mid lane hasn't picked yet (since i typically get my best results on him and he doesn't really have any hard lane counters), and just counterpick otherwise, and I feel like I might not be picking the right champions at the right time.

P.S. I know most people who will see this post will look at my rank, see that I'm bronze at the moment due to my subpar placement results, and will leave a really simple answer that should suffice for a bronzie like me, and I would be ok with that, but I would also like better knowledge of this stuff for when i get plat and beyond.
