Why everyone (at least in my games) builds relic shield on thresh? He's ranged, right?
Relic shield only works on meele, why people build it on thresh? are these people just noobs or it somehow works on thresh?

It works on anyone, but you only get the execution if you're melee. Meaning you actually have to last hit, you can't just rely on the large amount of true damage from the item to kill the minion.

^ This and it works particularly well on Thresh because of the wind-up damage from his Flay passive. Easy stacks.
Lol people just know Relic shield makes way more $$$ than Golden Coin, and the AP thing is pretty bad on Thresh so Relic shield is a good compromise
I thought coin made more gold? Especially once you get it to tier 2.
I think the coin might generate more gold if you're sitting next to like literally every minion as it dies, but under normal circumstances including warding/roaming the Relic makes a bit more
But the sustain and health on Relic isn't really something most people would want to pass up on Thresh anyway
Loooool, roaming in low elo!? So your adc can dive 1v2 and say, "wtf support where r u"? No thanks.
Also, warding with relic kind of takes away from hitting the passive as well...

On Summoner's Rift, assuming Relic Shield's user kills the most valuable minions available, it provides:
5.5 gold per 10 seconds to the user and to the lane partner before the 20-minute mark. After 20 minutes, it provides 6.6 gold per 10 to the user and to the lane partner.
On Summoner's Rift, assuming Ancient Coin's user is within range of all minion deaths in a lane, it provides:
6.3 gold per 10 seconds before the 20-minute mark. After 20 minutes, Ancient Coin provides 6.7 gold per 10 before the 35-minute mark. After 35 minutes, Ancient Coin provides 7 gold per 10 seconds
Melees only get the execute. If a ranged Champion can kill the minion, the gold is shared. Thresh's E gives him a very easy way to do that.
well most people get it as well as pros so i wouldn't exactly say they're noobs.
I do think most people can't last hit well enough to get it and make it worthwhile tho.
I personally get tailisman because I've always been a shurelya's reverie kinda guy
Thresh gets a respectable amount of bonus damage on his autos thanks to his Flay passive, meaning he has a much easier time getting the charges off than most other ranged champs.
He used to be not compatible with Relic Shield at all as the entire passive was strictly melee only if I remember correctly. Riot specifically changed it for him so it's at least half usable by him now, so yeah.
Now anyone can use the heal and gold aspect of the item, just not the execute if you're ranged (but remember Thresh comes with an innate AA proc so he might as well be fully compatible with the item).
Favourism wins bro, don't you know?
But anyway, don't mind the part where I hate.
It isn't favoritism though. Any Champion can use Relic Shield, its just that only Melee Champs can "execute" the minions, so any ranged champ will need to last-hit. Thresh naturally has an easier time last hitting because he can build up the bonus damage on his E. However you can do it with anyone; Veigar can go support with Runic Shield and Q-kill minions. Not saying you should, but you can.
There is no special rule that makes Thresh different than any other ranged Champ.
The gold passive was never melee only.
Riot never changed anything about Thresh triggering it: His autos were always considered ranged
You can still last hit. 90% of my Thresh's don't know how to do this and lose me cs. I wish they would just take coin -_-
Thanks for the answers. I thought the whole passive was melee only and not just the execute, that's why I asked.
Thresh has everything in his kit but lacks sustain. So Thresh players build relic because it's easy to proc it with the passive dmg from his e.
