Odyssey proves Riot doesn't need PBE anymore.

Edit: since a lot of people can't read let me dumb it down: Riot is "supposed to" use PBE for testing big shit for bugs and balances. They are releasing a big event with 0 of that PBE testing. If it works 100% successfully, there is 0 need for a PBE server as all it will be doing is acting as a glorified advertising platform for people who read S@20 or watch Beta YouTube's/streams for cosmetics.

Also in a gameplay thoughts, when asked about constantly nerfing Irelia i distinctly recall some rioter saying: "the PBE is a guide, but its far from perfect balance wise. This is due to many factors (laggy server, little to no MMR system, people experimenting with builds, etc. So we usually always need to do follow-up after a live release when we have more accurate data." Uhhh then, why not just go live, let the REAL servers find balance issues, and hot fix it with your fancy new micro patch tool???? So can y'all stop with assuming I WANT the PBE to be some "hacked" account with everything unlocked? Im saying that's where it's headed and I DON'T think it should exist if so. Jesus.

Just gonna say it flat out. PBE was a testing server for every little thing, then it was the "cool place to be" when big changes and new champs/reworks were popping out, and now it's basically just a way for Riot to advertise things in game. When you're on tho? The servers are rocky at best, you can never play what is newest unless you're lucky or extremely patient, and letting in everyone who got lvl 3 honor just bloated an already toxic and bullshit game attitude. Now, Riot just straight released something to Live without a PBE prep. 6 new skins (1 legendary, and the first new skin of Kayns) a new event with new map and gameplay, AND a bunch of other cosmetic shit, with 0 PBE testing. Thing is tho? I'm not complaining. Hell I'm GLAD cause I hated playing PBE. I log on only when it's either a rework i been hyping or a new game mode and that's all. So answer this, if we can put somethingthis big out to live immediately, why does the PBE even exist? Is it literally just a place to show off big system changes now? That's not gonna last since 0% of people play on PBE the same as on live. (Riot even admits this in a few places when they explain why they constantly are buffing/nerfing champs after only a patch or two) Anyways, excited for the event. It looks badass and if they learned from SG: Invasion this PvE mode will be dope.

Pbe needs to go, its just completely useless.

I think it's too early to say that. We'll have to see if any egregious bugs made it through.

Something small and simple like Beemo is one thing. Something like this is on another scale entirely

What good has the PBE community ever done? OP things have always come out of it and bugs, PBE is a pathetic community of players that are there to play the latest soon to be released things but how many players are actualy there to catch bugs and detect game breaking champion stats and abilities that always seem to come to live seervers only to be hot fixed in a weak, thats a clear example PBE should be deleated.

Also many youtubers have a PBE account and always spoil champions and new abilities and items and when they come to live they are well known and the element of surprise and new is gone.

And sites like surrender@20 also ruin the surprise for players and you cant fucking go to the internet because everything is already spoiled, like the Akali ''accidental'' reveal by profesorAkali

Pbe is a bug testing zone.

PBE is more of a balance testing ground for buffs and nerfs. Some stuff never makes it out of there. Getting to play with new skins early is just a bonus seeing as they don't really need PBE for bug testing that much. They can test for bugs at Riot. Some bugs are bound to make it through to live regardless of PBE testing or not because usually those bugs aren't blatantly obvious. Besides that Riot is slow on bug fixes and disregards some bugs entirely if they aren't game breaking. Take Kayn's ult bug where he occasionally doesn't drop turret agro like he's supposed to and Riot hasn't fixed it even though he's had this bug since he was released.

The PBE is not designed for you to play all your games with any skin you want. It's Riot's sandbox to test things for bugs and balance. The servers are very restricted compared to normal League. You have in essence outlined the purpose of the PBE and criticized it for being a thing.

It's baffling how everyone agrees with me that PBE isnt just for cosmetics yet no one has actual evidence saying otherwise other than "well back when X was released on PBE it was buggy so they fixed it" when the whole point is Riot DIDN'T. USE. IT. FOR. THIS. EVENT.

So answer me this, if this event succeeds, and it will I'm already calling it, why SHOULD they use PBE if they can instead ride hype waves right into live? Short answer: they won't. The PBE will become used for only 2 things: cosmetics and system wide changes. Everything else will be sent to live unbalanced to be fixed 2 weeks later.

Sorry such a simple message was both confusing AND made so many people salty. No wonder everyone got mad at some dumb no men allowed bullshit.

You know PBE is for finding bugs of course riot won't release anything 100% working but atleast you are able to play for example a new champion that was released and riot also saves time testing beacuse players test it for them so the champion will be early and won't be completely broken.

um...to have lvl 3 honor you actually can't be toxic lol

I know from personal experience (I got demoted to honor 0 before, still not lvl 3 again yet)

With an event as simple as this, there’s not much need for public testing.

If pbe is useless....dont play on it.

Pika Fox9/17/2018, 6:29:09 PM1 votes

Riot didnt use it for this event because it was supposed to be a major surprise. That doesnt mean the pbe is useless or not needed, as im sure a lot of the backbone of the event is similar to the star guardian event, so they felt comfortable with their internal tests.

the PBE exists to test out new things that are going to possibly persist in the game, please stop trying to push this, as i dont want to see first draft of the next champion live day one. because all it means as i can dodge till i get first instalock-in in a blind game, or just perma-ban them myself in either draft or ranked, period, soley because i dont want to risk having to deal with them on the enemy team. i get where your coming from, but its an illogical point if you were to put real thought into it. ur litterally asking for rito to make real servers the PBE, back to when every broken idea riot has gets thrown in to make peoples lives worse lol.
