I feel like I'm getting too old for League.

Level 10 Zed deleted me in 0.67 seconds. I'm not going to argue whether that's fair, and whether he should own more than literally just item 3147 to be allowed to do that.

But I feel like I'm getting too old to be able to respond quickly enough to counter-play in League of Legends. Talon deleted my Nami in 0.36s by jumping over the wall just now.

I just don't have it in me anymore to respond that quickly to something happening, I guess. My reflexes are shit.

And I kinda miss old League once more, where you'd have at least a second to respond to what was happening, and a teamfight'd last more than 10 seconds.

You know, if Riot'd make a Rotating Game Mode that's Ultra Slow Fire, where all damage/healing/shielding is slashed by 50% across the board (except for turrets vs champions and champions vs minions/monsters), I'd probably like to play the hell out of that mode.

Because really, I'm starting to feel like I'm getting too old to enjoy this game, which seems to become more and more fast-paced with every season, while my reflexes go down every season. :(

EDIT: One of my favourite viewer moments: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMIDWZdJb3w

But I feel in today's League, the video'd be over at 0:02 because Ryu would've triggered Draktharr and Electrocute, and Faker'd have been gone.

Assassins out-playing each others and not the first one hitting meaning the other one dying. Good old days

I don't think it has much to do with your age.

Figure an average .25 second reaction time, add .05 seconds for ping, that's a minimum possible reaction time of .3 seconds.

.3 seconds might seem adequate, but then factor in delays due to observing the minimap, having to process what is happening on your main screen, having to aim some abilities, cast time, recall which items and hotkeys are available...

A young person might be expected to react adequately to a time-to-kill of a second, but as you mentioned, with nonsense like item 3147 and Dark Harvest TTKs can be >.5s.

It has nothing to do with reflexes, its simply impossible to react to the utterly retarded amount of damage in this game atm.

Riot just ruined this game because the people in charge are fucking idiots. They wanted to make pro play more exciting and viewership is still in the toilet.

Most of the time what looks like lightning fast reaction time is actually prediction. Shooters rely more on fast reflexes, but League is almost always about rapid decision making.

Ah, back when mechanical skill mattered and outplay was relevant...what a good time.

LC$ isn't going to make it economically. Riot has been warned about ignoring their player base but they've got this pipe dream that's going to end up killing off the game, at least in NA. This is for the best, they make terrible decisions.

Everyone is having less fun this seasons because there are less ways to have fun. Believe or not, a lot of players dont play assassins or outplay champs, and even less play them well. But they can be excessively cheesy this season.

Come to DotA! Everything is slow.

Perfect for old men like us.

GreatWhiteNorth10/6/2018, 2:21:04 PM3 votes

You may be right:

The group with the fastest reflexes of humanity are 18 year old males. Period.

LCS is full of males near that age. I don't know if there has been that many female LCS players, or even that many males over the age of 25.

Which is why I would support creating LCS divisions based on which reflex category people fall into, by sex and age group. There are plenty of studies that could be used to inform how to make this work. We might get to watch games that involve high level strategy without as much "instant" deletion too, albeit that deletion might not seem as instant to the 18 year old males.

I have actually been bursted down by single champs(AkaliPyke) at level one. Was definitely a bizarre experience to say the least..

How much health did you have, and were you wearing any armor? Killing an injured, unarmored target fast is what Zed and Talon do.

Ameliea10/6/2018, 3:38:27 PM2 votes

You would not play the hell out of that mode. If you cut damage that much, there would be tons of degenerate strategies that would suck the fun out of it after half a day. The first games of such a mode would be fun, but the community figures these things out way too fast.

Four words: play a different game.

Three more words: World of Warships.

GripaAviara10/6/2018, 10:21:35 PM1 votes

Same, too much reflex play. The problem is in general reflex games don't drag on for 20 min of slow farm

deadlychuck10/6/2018, 11:03:47 PM1 votes

Naw, the game does actually change and shift it's appeal towards a different audience.

People act like it's a matter of the players getting older, but there are games that I can go back to which I haven't played in over half of my life, that I can go back to and enjoy just as much as I did when I was younger.

The difference is that those games never changed. Yeah I didn't remember exactly every detail about them, but I got what I expected from them.

It's good practice to keep old versions of your software in a database, in case of critical system failures or vulnerability discoveries that require massive roll backs. Yet that's just when it comes to software like microsoft office or websites like amazon. If game developers are going to start creating iterative games that replace pieces as they're developed, then they need to start retaining legacy servers which house and run old versions of the software as reference and backups.

I agree, there is nothing more frustrating than an Udyr running me down when I'm playing someone like Sion. I slow him, knock him up, and within 3 seconds he has caught up and killed me.

That's the reason why I stopped playing fortnite :D
